The summer is on the way, which means DVD releases are
either very weak, or they’re chosen to be strong
enough to compete with the theatrical releases. We’ve
got a few strong titles out this week.
First, the genre releases:
- Spaceballs
–
Collector’s Edition: The amusing, immature, and
mediocre movie is
getting a two disk release. - Splash
– 20th
Anniversary Edition: This was amusing as
well. - Star
Trek:
Enterprise – Season One: The first season of the
latest version of
Star Trek. It’s priced the way Star
Trek usually
is, though.
Now, the non-genre releases:
- Cop
Land –
Director’s Cut: This film convinced a few people I
know that
Stallone is actually capable of acting. I haven’t
seen it myself. - The
Dirty
Dozen: A classic of American cinema. It’s also
available in a World
War II Boxed Set. - John
Wayne
Legendary Heroes Collection: John Wayne fans will
be happy. - Phantom
of the
Opera: I hope Schumacher did better with this than
with Batman. - Pocahontas:
The
Disney version, in which Pocahontas isn’t
underage.
Finally, the pick of the week. National
Treasure: This was actually a decent movie. The
whole thing is a
family friendly adventure in puzzle solving. There
were a couple of
moments which depended upon stupidity of the villains,
but not as many
as most action flicks.
