Movie Discussion: Real Steel

This weekend saw the release of the Robo-Boxing film, Real Steel, based on a story by Richard Matheson. Did it appeal to the Bureau? Or do we only want to see Hugh Jackman with metal claws?

  1. For me, the instant I saw it, I thought “Rock ’em Sock ’em Robots: The Movie”. From comments around the web, I see I’m not alone.

It looks entertaining, but not enough to drop the cash to see it in the theater. I will definitely rent it though.

    • You’ve stated my position exactly.

Anyone want to discuss Rock’em Sock’em Robots instead? Those things kicked butt knocked block!

      Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!

  2. The movie was all the clichés you’d expect, but done right. It was the standard father/son story, that just happened to contain robots.

I wasn’t going to see this in the theater, until I saw that it was based on “Steel”, a Richard Matheson story, from 1956. It was originally adapted for a 1963 episode of The Twilight Zone. That, and finding that Richard was happy with the movie, tipped the scale for me.

Really liked it. The telling could have easily devolved to a “Speilbergian sappiness”, but it didn’t. Give it a watch.
