Buffy Officially Over

chad writes, According to Sarah Michelle Gellar, season 7 will be the last. Check out the link at slashdot, and here’s another. Things look good for a spinoff, but Sarah Michelle Gellar won’t be back in a starring role. So, what do you folks hope to see instead? Kennedy the Vampire Slayer? A show about a new watchers council? Throw out your ideas here.

  1. What’s the most out-there Spinoff idea?
Seriously, Joss has said that nobody’s going to expect it, and that it’s going to be great. I’m voting for “Spike the Vampire…”

      Two Comments, Neither Original.

My Friend Egg Pointed Out That it Would Be Perfectly Like Joss To Hype This Up As The End, Then Not End It. Surprise.

Also, They’re Talking About A Spin Off, With All Of The Current Cast. It Sounds To Me More Like They’re Going To Keep The Show The Same, But Since Buffy’s Not Staring, They’ll Change The Name Of The Show.

Personally, Focusing On The Building Of A New Watcher’s Council Would Be Very Kewl. Or A ‘Ripper’ Show. Kennedy I’m Hoping Leaves With This Season, I’ve Never Found Her All That Interesting.

Of Course, A Show With Willow And Tara Staring Would Get Me To Watch As Often As They Aired.

Yes, but they’ll have to change the focus. After all, we’ve seen how good they are at slaying vampires. One thing I thought of, but don’t think is going to happen: What if they slayed The First Vampire? All the vampires would die (excepting Angel and hopefully Spike), and that would be a good lead-in to the new show. But since this is The First Evil, not The First Vampire, I guess that’s not going to happen.

Lessee, who’s left? Dawn, Xander, Willow, Spike. Giles is getting his own show, eventually, but it keeps getting pushed back. (Anyone seen Manchild, btw? Series 2 is coming) Depending on Joss’s schedule, it might finally happen. But his show’s more about haunted houses, from what I remember, not vamps.

Let’s see, what else could we do? Oh, I know – Buffy/Firefly crossover. Didn’t he do comics about the future slayers? Of course, that doesn’t keep the core cast of Buffy around, not in any recognizable form. Time to keep guessing…

You just made that up didn’t you?
I mean, have they ever said that that would happen? ‘Cause up ’till now they haven’t been heavy on the “kill the head vampire and the rest will die by themselves” notion.

I remember them saying it all started with a single vampire, but I also doubt this would work. If it did, wouldn’t the same logic have required Angel to die when Darla did? I’m not even sure the first vampire is still around.

How do you get each word to be capitalized in your posts. Do you hit shift every time, or is this a cool function in your web-browser?

I, for one, can’t imagine how you can read it. I skip over your posts because I simply can’t read them.

Maybe it’s my brower. Is it randomly putting in caps?

I Hit Shift Every Time. It’s An Old Habit.

As the parent poster suggested, it’s a very bad habit that you should probably think about breaking. I also skip every post you make on this board, and you comment at least once in every story I read. Just a bit of advice.

Well, I always read your postings, Alexius, with no problems. The secret? I take a deep breath and slow down, which isn’t a bad thing to do now and then, in my humble opinion.

  2. silly but somehow appealing
Buffy and all the Slayerettes die at the end of the season and Andrew, so inspired by Buffy’s heroism and her belief in his redemption, decides to train a new generation of slayers in his own inimitable way.

Of course, to be completely honest, I’d rather not see a spin-off at all. Let Joss concentrate on just Angel and add Anya (or maybe Willow, but they’d have to get rid of the whole “magic is bad for her” vibe) to the mix. The way Angel has been amping things up this season, it could be one very awesome show if Joss would jump back in full time.

  3. Slayed
I really think the show has run its course. Whedon should move onto something else; he’s best with original ideas, and Buffy… hasn’t been original for awhile. I don’t think non-Buffy Buffy will be any better.

Only once in TV history has a show survived a retooling that involved the loss of the central character (and I never did watch A Different World, so I’m not actually vouching for its quality). Post-Andy Mayberry was a disaster. AfterMASH crashed and burned. The creator of Happy Days freely admits now that the post-Richie eps were terrible. I don’t think even Whedon can break this tradition.

    Some frightening possibilities:

In the Heat of the Night II: Wood and Spike

    Andrew’s Angels

Kennedy the Warrior Princess (with Willow in green bra and Xander as Joxer the Dyke-Tyke)

Dawn and Clark: The New Adventures of Superboy

    Or….

Giles removes his glasses and his voice takes on an authoritative tone. “The Slayer has the power to regenerate twelve times. Her new form may look different and even act different…. But that woman in the scarf is…. She is Buffy.”
    Cue theramin.

  4. Spin-Off
    1. In the Final Final Battle with the First, Buffy is killed. The torch is passed to ???

    2. Willow is seemingly killed. But in fact she becomes One with the Magical Forces of the universe.

    3. Tara becomes a witch and sometime conduit of Willow’s power.

    4. Giles builds a new Council.

    5. Xander becomes the Watcher of the new Slayer.

    6. Spike and Andrew become a roaming team of evil investigators and demon warriors.

    7. Everybody else either dies or ends up doing guest spots in future episodes.

(Not very “out there” but it’s kinda where I’d take it.)

    • Re: Spin-Off

      5. Xander becomes the Watcher of the new Slayer.

I like that one. Unfortunately, it runs the risk of just being ” The Vampire Slayer”. That would be interesting, though – revisit the show, 20 years hence. Xander’s the Watcher, Willow’s his mysterious friend, Spike is somehow still around. The Slayer has her problems, but so does her watcher… make it more Xand-centric, where he pulls her into things, instead of the other way around.
