Andromeda Discussion – “What Happens to a Rev Deferred?”

This is the last new episode of Andromeda for a while. The next four weeks (at least) are reruns.

  1. Is it any better?
When I saw the “last one for 4 weeks”, my first thought was whether that was good or bad. I watched the first couple eps, saw it was bad Star Trek ripoffs, and went back to other shows. So, has it gotten any better?

      Nope

I suffered through this episode out of a masochistic curiosity about where they were going with it, then I moved it down to the very bottom of the priority list in the Season Pass Manager in my Tivo. Apparently my masochistic needs haven’t been completely satisfied, or I would have just entirely deleted it. Though I do like Harper…

Oh, you hit the nail right on the head. Nothing of any interest ever happens on this show, or any other SF program. You are probably best off, keeping that impressive mind of yours closed to new ideas and programs. I mean with a read shirt dieing before the first comercial break, and all the chincy transporter effects, I am sure that nothing on Andromeda would be of interest to you.

  2. What the hell was going on in this episode?
So did this get renewed or cancelled? If this lives on but O5, farscape, firefly, buffy, and futurama are cancelled.. oooooh.. *shakes fist in air*

I heard it was renewed. Remember, though, this is syndication; the standards are much lower (obviously ;).

BTW, I’m wondering what the point of this episode was, other than to inject gratuitous religiosity into a show that has been drifting away from that? I mean, they go through all the trouble of making Rev Bem human, only to have him leave again (for those who don’t know, Rev Bem was written out in part because the actor became allergic to the magog makeup). Oh, and little miss “the future(s) of universe is up to me” now believes in some divine guiding force!?

Feh, I’m done ranting about this show. I’m not even sure why I keep on my Season Pass list (oops, TiVo-specific reference, sorry :).

I may be wrong, but I suspect that the point of the episode was that belief changes us. It does not matter what the specific belief is, the act of believing in something more than ourself is what changes us.

Trance may be (ok, is) a higher power, or something in between. From what I have seen, there are others of her kind that have shown up from time to time. I don’t happen to think that she thinks she is the end all of higher powers however. As a result, affirming another’s belief in their own god or gods is not against her way of existence.

Then again, that’s just my opinion.

Or, Possibily it was an effort to change the makeup as to not make the actor that plays Rev bem as allergic to the stuff that made him go off the show in the first place?
