  1. Oh, yeah!

It was episodes like this that convinced me Angel was the best show on the air last season. Also, it’s the first time in weeks the WB promos I saw didn’t give away the ending. (Speaking of the ending, this plotline was inspired by similar events in the real life of one of the actresses in the Buffy-verse.)

I’m Guessing You Mean That Cordy’s Actually Pregnant?

Also, Was It Just Me, Or Did Wes Single Handedly Take The Line ‘Five By Five’ From Being Dumb To Kewl? I always found It Annoying When I Listened To Faith Say It, But Wes Responding With It Today Made It One Of My Favorite Lines.

Yes. I was told that awkward, out-of-character moment she had with Connor during the rain of fire was written in because Charisma Carpenter is pregnant.

Of course the real question is, is that really Cordy, and what is out of character for a fake Cordy?

It was great to see Faith again. I think Eliza Dushku’s an excellent actress. It reminded me of the good ol’ days, before Buffy started drifting south with the “Intiative” and fruity concepts like that. (Having said that, it’s been very good it’s last season.. looking forward to the crossovers I’ve heard are coming !)

  2. You Gotta Have Faith
Oh man. I loooooove Faith. My favorite Slayer of all time. No doubt. After seeing her in action again, I realized that is she were to become the “new Buffy,” I’d have no complaints.

It’s nice to see the series remaining true to it’s noir-ish influences. A good example is having Angel’s former lover Cordelia involved with his son. Creepy sexuality is a common noir element. Of course you can’t get much more noir (literally) than blocking out the sun!

I haven’t always been a fan of this show, but this season has won me over. (And stupid fanboy that I am, I sit here wearing an ANGEL 2001 sweatshirt given to me by a former crew member. Yeesh, I’m such a geek.)

  3. Best Prison Break Ever
The subject should say it all, but I’ll elaborate anyway. When I saw in my ReplayTV guide something like “Wesley breaks Faith out of prison to hunt Angelus” I was expecting some overly elaborate plan taking up most of the episode, partly to stretch out the “Faith is back” storyline. Instead, they stuck with what was said back when they were talking about what to do with Faith when they were trying to figure out how to contain her, namely that a prison couldn’t hold a slayer who doesn’t consent to confinement. It was fast, furious and even closed with Wesley throwing off a solid quip.

Off the topic of the prison break, they are doing one “hell” of a job keeping things fresh. It would be easy dropping into old ruts with Angelus, a team member going bad, etc. since it’s been done before. Instead, Angelus is just as evil but not just a rehash of Buffy’s second season (note that he took out the demon even knowing there was a possibility the sun would come back, where he tried to destroy the world before); Cordelia’s evil (well, whatever’s standing in for Cordy) is being played subtle instead of shooting over the top (see Dark Willow); and the team seems to be molding into a new form without too much pontificating (see the end of BTVS season 4 and all of the current BTVS season).

In closing, I’ll echo the sentiments of so many Buffy/Angel fans: Rest in peace, BTVS…Long live Angel.
