Comedy
Adventures in Babysitting: 25th Anniversary Edition
Blaine: It disturbs me that movies I loved in elementary school are now getting 25th anniversary editions. Also, some would argue that this is the first feature film representation of Marvel’s Thor.
Evan Almighty
Grosse Point Blank
High Fidelity
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion: 15th Anniversary Edition
Spaceballs: 25th Anniversary Edition
Crime
Bound
Blaine: If memory serves, this is the first Wachowski Brothers film. Definitely enjoyable, and definitely not family fare.
Jesse Stone: Benefit of the Doubt
The Rookies: Season Two
Documentary
Marley
Drama
Bel Ami
Parenthood: Season Three
Family
Animated Classics 8 Pack Volume 1
Blaine: I personally debate if these are truly classics. The company name changes every few years, but this is a company that survives by putting out cheap product riding on Disney’s marketing. These eight features average 47 minutes each. The included titles are: The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Leo the Lion, Aladdin and Pinocchio.
Animated Classics 8 Pack Volume 2
Includes Pocahontas, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Thumbelina, Heidi, Black Beauty, Hercules and Jungle Book.
Incredible Mr. Limpet
Little Cars Complete Series
8 short films.
Looney Tunes Show: There Goes the Neighborhood
Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax
  • DVD only: Amazon
  • Digital purchase: Amazon
  • DVD/Blu-Ray/Digital combo: Amazon
  • DVD/Blu-Ray/3D Blu-Ray/Digital combo: Amazon
My Little Pony Friendship is Magic: Royal Pony Wedding
Storybook Classics 8 Pack
Includes Black Beauty, Peter Pan, Hercules, Robin Hood, Three Musketeers, Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland and Tom Sawyer.
Fantasy
Grimm: Season One
Preacher’s Wife
Music / Musical
Blues Brothers 2000
Mystery
Clue
Blaine: I keep hearing this is good, but haven’t brought myself to watching it. I have a hard time with mysteries that do not have unique solutions, and part of the gimmick with this film was that it had four different solutions in four different endings, driving audiences to see it in theatres four different times to see all iterations.
Reality
Ghost Hunters: Season 7: Part 1
Science Fiction
Iron Sky
  • Blu-Ray/Digital Combo: Amazon
Blaine: A well reviewed independent sci-fi film. It won’t be out in DVD format until October 2, 2012.
Sports
WWE Superstar Collection – Daniel Bryan
WWE Superstar Collection – Seamus
War
Full Metal Jacket: 25th Anniversary Edition
Western
Gunsmoke: The Sixth Season Vol. 1

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Being that it is set and filmed in Portland, I’m contractually obligated to make Grimm my pick of the week, with Clue running a close second.” Blaine says, “the first two Forbidden Hollywood collections were great, but I haven’t seen the third. The latest two are tempting, but I haven’t seen them yet.”

    • Chad: The reviews (published and from friends) kept me away, but I can’t give you a personal response.

Blaine: Wait ’til the stuff you liked in university starts getting 25th Anniversary releases. Also, since I likely will never see Adventures in Babysitting, could you provide any context for this Mighty WTF:

      • The young girl was a massive fan of “Thor” from the comics. The mechanic just happened to look the part, so she was able to get through to him, thus making the character useful and productive in the course of the evening. I wouldn’t go out of my way to see it again, but if it were on TV (and if I hadn’t cancelled my cable) I’d probably watch it again. As it stands, I doubt I’ll see it unless and until I introduce my niece to it.

  1. RE: Animated Classics

The title is correct. They make animated versions of classic stories. How classic any given adaptation may be remains a puzzle for the viewer.

  2. Clue – Loved this in high school and college. Not sure if I would love it anymore though. Very campy and slapstick. Lots of silliness.

Some of the performances though are pretty wonderful, especially Tim Curry. IIRC, the plot moves along pretty quickly and it’s pretty fun overall. Like I said though, it’s been a few years since I’ve seen it, but it’s probably worth a watch.
