It is August, and the major summer blockbusters have already hit. We are now starting a “good streak” of home video titles that typically lasts until the end of November.

Blaine: The third of four story arcs by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday. I checked out the first chapter of the motion comic based on the first arc and haven’t looked back. My advice is to get this out of print gem if you can find it, or this and this if you can’t.
Marvel Anime: Iron Man – Season One
Blaine: Would it kill them to release a two disc set instead of two single disc releases?
Marvel Anime: X-Men – Season One |
Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, ” Well, while I have not seen the event yet, Money in the Bank 2012 will be going in my Netflix Queue. Other than that, I’d definitely recommend either picking up the new release of Spearhead from Space, or Jaws – depending on which you don’t already own.” Blaine says, “I vote for Jaws with no qualifiers, but I recommend you ignore the sequels.”
Good call for Jaws, although the first sequel is almost passable, if you aggressively avoid any comparison with the first film. It’s sort of like the Saturday Matinee version of Jaws.
Hunger Games, if you haven’t seen it.
I find it terribly amusing there’s a Brain that Wouldn’t Die Collection.
The rerelease of Jaws also supposedly does some things with the color balance that was not possible for the sea shots back in the 1970s.
About The Hunger Games, it’s actually releasing on Saturday the 18th, not on Tuesday. Why? I have no idea…
I missed that release date. They’re doing that a lot with teen-oriented releases. The trend began with the Harry Potter novels; school attendance dropped significantly the day after a new book was released, so they went with Saturday releases at the request of schools. It’s starting to happen with similar titles on DVD and Blu-Ray, as well, though I can’t imagine why they’d both to do that in August for a North American release.
I suppose that makes sense… Around here all the kids are back in school already. (My kid started back this past Thursday)
Oh – one thing I forgot to mention when sending my contributions to Blaine (because I thought he’d pick up on it) – Greatest Show in the Galaxy is the last Sylvester McCoy serial.
