Joss Whedon develops S.H.I.E.L.D. for TV

The long rumoured Marvel TV series set in the continuity of their movie universe has a name and a developer. As reported here and elsewhere, Joss is working with brother Jed and sister-in-law Maurissa Tancharoen to develop S.H.I.E.L.D. for television, and will direct the pilot himself if the schedule permits. I’m already sold.

  1. I’m on board as well, even if it is very light on details. The Whedon crew usually do a great job, even if some of their series are short-lived.

Hopefully ABC treats them better than FOX would have…

  2. Shudder… one more series about a military structure. The comics *never* did well, I doubt a series will.

But then, Whedon can do some magic.

    • The comics did well as a backup in Strange Tales back in the 1960s, and they did well in the 1990s when it launched as a spy book and only dropped in sales when it became a superhero book. The spy genre tends to do better on TV than in comics though. Look at Alias, Mission:Impossible and the like. Of course, I’m a Nick Fury fan, so I’m biased. “Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1” is the issue in my 18,000+ issue collection that I spent the most money on.
