  1. Agreed.
One of my top 10 Buffy episodes. Each bit is great. It advances the story quite a bit, there’s a lot of good discussion (esp during Buffy & Willow’s part), etc, etc.

One thing I did notice the first time around is that nothing said by “The First” was the truth. If you notice throughout the show, that seems to be the case. It can’t be touched, it can’t tell the truth. I thought at the time it was because they’re up against the devil (aka “The Prince of Lies”). And they may still be – what else would the First Evil be?

How many more eps till we get a new one? I want to see Captain (or is that Preacher) Tightpants again!

      Is There Word On That?
      Nothing Conclusive.

I Don’t Think Joss Is Working Within A Christian Mythos, so I don’t Think It’s Going To Be ‘Satan’. I THink Joss Has Writen His Own ‘First Evil’.

Actually, What I’m Interested In Now Is If That Was actually Joyce, Or A Manifestation. I’m Sure we Won’t Find Out Until The Series Is Over, But That’s the Question I’m wondering About, how That Detail Was Going To Play Out.

Yeah, the rest of the season seems to imply that.

I’ve always figured that it was a lie, convincingly told by The First Evil. I think when it first aired, once I figured out what was going on, I looked at the volume of lies. Evan (?) mentioned being sired by Spike. A lie, I believe (though hard to prove either way, and it had a hint of truth). Amy (?) lied throughtout the conversation with Willow. And Joyce lied to Dawn.

Well, he wasn’t a manifestation of the first (not directly), he was a full blown vamp…

I thought some more about that as I watched the episode again. I’m convinced more than ever that it truly was, Joyce. It seems as though it would’ve been out of character for the First Evil to put on a charade like that (something trying to prevent Joyce from communicating with Dawn.

The First Evil hasn’t done that at any other time when it has assumed someone’s appearance. Why would it do so this time? I think that a “minion” of the First Evil really was trying to prevent the REAL Joyce from getting through to Dawn.

Next week’s episode is new, but won’t feature Nathan Fillion. He doesn’t return until the final run, which starts in late April. The last episode is going to air May 20, and the last five will run consecutively. (There are six left.)
