The Man-Trap
Blaine: Odd trivia surrounding this one. The second and final movie directed by Edmond O’Brien, who did a great job on the original D.O.A.. It stars Jeffrey Hunter, who played Captain Christopher Pike in the original Star Trek pilot episode. He was the only actor the network wanted to keep, but he left to pursue a movie career. The first episode of Star Trek to reach actual broadcast? “The Man Trap.”
Scarlet Street
Blaine: Fritz Lang directs Edward G. Robinson. How can you go wrong?
Documentary
Drama
Army Wives: Season Six Part One
Body of Proof: Season Two
A Double Life
The Woman in the Fifth

3 2 1 Penguins: Complete Season One
The Complete Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin
Blaine: I have fond memories of this series from my childhood, and bought it the last time it was published (in entirely different packaging) but haven’t gotten around to watching it yet.
The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin: In Search of the Treasure of Grundo
Blaine: This 85 episode series was written with an overarching cyclic three act structure. This is act one.
Best of Black Beauty
The Best of Ernest
Blaine: This is a 10 DVD set with “over 12 hours” of content. Sounds like sparse discs to me. Why isn’t this a 4-6 disc collection? It’s not to drive up the price since it’s only $19.93 at the time of this writing. It may be to fill out the standard packaging that is being used for most of these “Best of” products.
Horton Hears a Who
The Lorax
The television animated special, not the feature length film.
Monster Squad: The Complete Series (1976)
This is not the 1980s film, but is the Saturday morning TV series with Frankenstein’s Monster, Dracula and the Wolfman as crime fighters.
Fantasy
Paranormal State: The Ultimate Collection
Supernatural: The Complete Seventh Season
Blaine: The new season starts in October. I haven’t watched all of season seven yet, but I definitely enjoyed the first few episodes and plan to finish the season in a marathon viewing.

Avenging Force: The Scarab
Blaine: Not the Avengers, and made in 2010. The synopsis sounds more like an early story arc from New Warriors though.

War
Western
Rawhide: Season Five
Whiplash: The Complete Series

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “The Indiana Jones Complete Collection is tempting, and definitely worth picking up for those who want to upgrade their DVD versions for something better. Other then that, I’ll also definitely recommend Allison & Lillia.” Blaine says, “I also vote for the Indiana Jones upgrade, with the caveat that I haven’t seen Cabin in the Woods yet but have heard some pretty wonderful things.”

  1. Of these, we’ll be picking up Cabin in the Woods immediately. I already have IJ 1-3 on DVD (aka the only ones that really exist), so that upgrade can probably wait for a Christmas present or a later pickup.

This last season of Supernatural (no real spoilers here) was good but I got the impression they bit off a bit more than they could chew (you’ll get that joke when you watch the rest of the season…) – the resolution seemed a bit weaker than I would have liked, but I don’t know how much of that is going to spill over into the next season.

For a sitcom, Suburgatory is really good. Not sure if/when we’ll be picking up the DVDs but it’s one my wife and I watch regularly, and we only watch maybe 2-3 sitcoms at all.

  2. Plans are afoot for something related to that episode, and we’ll find out on June 13, 2017? Won’t we be too busy dealing with replicants and endless rain by then?
