Greatest Science Fiction Film Tournament Week 39: Round 5

We are now finished with multipart rounds. From this point on, each week constitutes and entire round. Round five is determined here. The complete elimination bracket can be seen here. Last week saw three statistical upsets, as The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) bested Galaxy Quest (1999), Aliens (1986) beat The Incredibles (2004) and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) defeated Forbidden Planet (1956). We nearly had a fourth statistical upset too, as Moon (2009) edged out Dr. Strangelove (1964) by a single vote.

  1. This is becoming Sophie’s Choice…

As long as Blade Runner keeps making it further into the tournament, at least I have something solid to vote against.

    • Interesting. For me, Blade Runner vs Serenity is the only one where I found the decision hard to make. However, I have a feeling I know where that one will go.

      • I had the same issue. As a Firefly fan, I really wanted to go with Serenity, but if I have to be honest it’s not as good of a movie as Blade Runner.

(Firefly was far better than Serenity – trying to cram an entire season into 2 hours just didn’t work so well.)

  2. I like to magine the matches as movies. Aliens versus the Incredibles was fantastic amazing!

    • So Gort and Klaatu take on the crew from Galaxy Quest, and the Trek crew battle the rather similar explorers from Forbidden Planet? Great premise.
