John Doe Discussion – “Shock to the System” (new)

There’s a new John Doe tonight. This makes episode 19, so I’m expecting reruns to be starting up any week now.

  1. Sonic boom and lightning?
Since when is thunder caused by lightning bolts colliding?

Indeed. Just over two months ago, a Seattle TV weatherman answered the exact same question. Too bad it was an ABC affiliate or Doe might have known about it.

On another note, the biggest plot hole in tonight’s episode (in my eyes) was this: If the lightning strike took away his fancy memory, why didn’t his original memory return? After all, it’s there in his head somewhere (as evidenced by the fact that he’s seen color in things apparently related to his prior life) and presumably being suppressed by the same process that gives him his all-encompassing fund of trivia knowledge.

The simplest answer is that the original memories aren’t there, and that the colour ones were orchestrated from the beginning to make him think that key figures the organization planted around him were actually from his past. Thus, the people that appear in colour are the people that the Phoenix organization wants him to see in colour.

Maybe so. I suppose we’ll eventually (assuming of course that the series is allowed to continue long enough) find that out. Hopefully, either they’ll explain it in that [or a similar] fashion and explain why his original memory didn’t return OR I’ll forget that I even thought it was a problem. :)

If I understand the process correctly, a lightning bolt as we see it is actually initiated by two separate bolts connecting somewhere and completing a circuit. From that, you *could* say thunder is _indirectly_ caused by two lightning bolts colliding, rather than the _direct_ reason of the air around the bolt being superheated and expanding fast enough to create a supersonic shockwave.

      Interesting. Two thoughts:

      1. How many people are asking questions they don’t know the answer to? Maybe he’s reading minds, and that’s why he got that one wrong?
      2. “Burns around the neck and shoulders” and now he doesn’t know things? Isn’t the “brand” around his shoulder? Interesting.

John seems to suspect that the thing in his shoulder is important. Still, “hard drive head” is a better sounding nickname than “hard drive clavicle.”

  2. RE: Stalin’s Allied codename
Did anyone hear it? I didn’t. What was his Allied codename in WWII?
