  1. Rubbery super heros
Am I the only one who thinks the fight scenes look like the characters and clothes are made of rubber/plastic? (dog pile for ex.)

While the new movie will no doubt be an amazing experience, there was a good reason NOT to do bullet time with just 3d models. It looks fake.

I kind of wish I didn’t watch the trailer now.

That happens when they are wearing plastic clothes :p

I think the effects look fantastic.

Completely realistic special effects have never existed in film. Whenever filmmakers do something that is not real, the audience is almost always able to tell. It’s funny how the closer computer FX get to photorealism, the more people gripe about how fake they look. Go watch some early 80s sci-fi movies with horrible blue screen, matte lines, and bad stop-motion effects… THAT’s fake-looking.

These effects aren’t perfect, but they are damn good, and the closest to photorealistic 3d human models I’ve seen yet. I watched the trailer three times and tried to determine when I was watching real actors and when I was watching 3d models, and there were a couple times I wasn’t able to tell. I think that’s pretty cool.

      This movie looks terrific.

Agreed in full. An argument could also be made that since everything in the virtual environment is, well, virtual, things looking fake when those things things start going crazy (people moving at the speed of light, running on walls, etc.) are obviously going to look unreal, since they aren’t…real, I mean.

Poor logic. I’ve got to stop torturing it.

I think they did an amazing job. Yes the superhuman stunts looked rubbery but that’s because it is hard to show something unrealistic in a realistic manner.

However, did you guys notice some of the other special effects. In the motorcycle scene the camera is moving freely through traffic at it’s level. Those trucks and other traffic arn’t there in real life… but it is VERY hard to tell that they arn’t. That last motorcycle scene is a very good example of what the “real life” effects look like… a real camera would have been trashed by that semi at the end.

Go back and take a good long look at Neo’s first “bullet-time” scene in the first movie. Pay close attention to his cape. Now go look at his cape in the new trailor. Note the lack of detail and texture. It isn’t acceptable.

The whole reason “bullet-time” was cool was BECAUSE of the detail. it was a beautiful synergy between film effect and 3d. This new stuff is crap. period. They should have gotten some real talent to pull it off right. If it couldn’t be done right yet, then they should have waited.

  2. Looks good on the big screen

This trailer was on Anger Management when I saw it last night, and it looks good on the big screen. I know I’m sold.

By the way, there won’t be a full Anger Management review because it’s not really part of this site’s target area. Short review: surprisingly funny, especially considering how remarkably humourless Adam Sandler movies usually are. I’m not sure I’d recommend paying full admission for it, but it’s certainly worth a rental.
