  1. cool!
chewie was always a favorite character. I’m sure his addition will be one of the highlights in Episode 3

No, not cool. Chewie was a great character and we’ll get the stupid jar-jarified version in Ep 3 :(
Hey, while they are at it, they could bring the whole wookie family from the Holiday Special.

    • NOT COOL!
Here is what drives me nuts with this. It creates more continuity problems. When Obi-Wan meets Chewie in Mos Eisly he does not remember him? I mean how many wookies has he met in his life that he forgets him? It also drives me nuts that he does not know who R2D2 and C3PO are.

Congrats for to Lucas for destroying the continuity of his universe!

Please note, I will still be online opening night for this with the dire hope that this movie will fix the other 2

  2. Hmmm.
So, off hand, I would guess that there are easily something like 100 billion fictional sentient creatures living in the fictional Star Wars universe. Seems to me that it is somehow out of balance to build the epic story of that universe using only a dozen or so of them over and over.

George Lucas lost it a while back. I think he went a bit insane when
people kept buying every slightly different VHS versions he released…

But yeah, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, everyone knew
everbody else, just like in a small high school. Sucks.

The star wars universe is a very ‘conservative’ one. Only the elites matter, everyone else is a useless peon. How many Gungans(sp) would you say died in ep1? There was a paper written on this a while ago – about the values and societal structure they are _really_ presenting. So in essence you have a handful of monarchs and key players in their games. Star wars is turning out to be more of a political thriller than anything else. It’s sort of like how if they made US-vs-Iraq prequels Saddam and the CIA would be working together since the 1950’s, yet most people would think it was a work of fiction with the author gone insane. (Sorry I just couldn’t resist, there are just too many parallels between current events and the politics in star wars…)

Chewy and solo are on a galactically-(in)famous ship, and they aren’t exactly friends with the empire either, and they managed to successfully operate smuggling and other illegal businesses for a long indeterminate period of time.

I could rant a very long time about everything annoying in eps I and II, and wouldn’t all be, “Well, I’d have done it differently” syndrome, either. I really don’t understand why Lucas felt the need to put so many of the Ep IV-VI characters in the first two. It’s not just that Artoo and C3P0 have to get their memories wiped at some point, Artoo has to decide to never fly again even when it would have been useful, or that we have to believe little orphan Ani can build a robot that resembles several seen in the classic trilogy, it’s that they serve no real purpose in the first two films. And the whole sense that chance brought the motley crew together in Star Wars seems tarnished, especially now with Chewie showing up.

Of course, he might make it work….

  3. Yea what he said…
Listen i really hate episode 1 and 2. theres a good reason they started with number4 so i dont care what they do with 3. But hopefully Chewy and Han, being the comedic centerpieces in the other movies, will dampen the dry humor and kiddy humor that shrouded the last two movies. God i cant tell which was worse, Barney and the backyard gang or Jar Jar and Episode 1.

I really doubt Han Solo will be in Episode 3, probably just Chewie.

I mean, Han is what? maybe 10 years older than Luke at the most, right? And Ep3 will probably end with or at least show the birth of Luke and Leia. So, even if Han did show up, he’d be a little kid and definitely not hanging out with Chewbacca.

Well what are they planning with Chewie? Another kid like Bobafete(sp)? Or was Chewbacca like 50 in ep 4?

Older, likely. The ill-fated, infamous Star Wars Holiday Special (or the promotional material attached to it; it’s been a looong time) is hardly canon (though it’s looking better, after Ep I), but it revealed that Wookies live a couple of hundred years, and I think they gave Chewie’s age as quite advanced by our standards. This information must have come from somewhere. Anyone know more about Wookies and aging?

Well, the linked article comes from the official SW site, so this statement: “Given that Chewbacca is a sprightly 200 years old in Episode IV, he is more than old enough to fit into the prequel timeline.” would seem to be canon proof that Wookies do have much longer lifespans than humans.

IIRC, some of the novels back this up as well.
