Alias Discussion: “Second Double” and “The Telling”

Two hours worth of Alias tonight, all new. Billed as the two hour season finale, it’s actually two episodes. I can’t wait.

When I remember last year’s season finale (when we found out that her mother was not only ALIVE, but “The Man”) I look at tonight’s episodes with absolute amazement.

Nice twist. I wasn’t expecting missing time, though I half thought that
Sloan’s Rambaldi device was a teleporter by the end there.

  2. this is why I love this show.
    That twist threw me.
So now we wonder what the heck happened.
Vaughn is out of the CIA and married, Syd doesn’t remember the past 2 years? Looks like she went to sleep/coma while her prophesy laden alter-ego came out of the shell and took over for awhile… but who knows.

They’ll have to spend the first few episodes of the next season explaining what happened… I hope they don’t totally go back over the missing time.

I found it a little unreasonable and odd that DeRevko suddenly turned and started feeding info to Syd without getting something out of it….

I don’t think her “prophecy laden alter ego came out of the shell”…I think she probably was put in cold storage of some kind….(not literally). perhaps the device is a time machine?(probably not, but hey…)
as for durevco…I don’t know…something about when the earrings sent the messages in morse code to Syd…just because you don’t SEE what durevco got out of that info, you can be sure she got exactly what she wanted. there’s been no change of heart on her part. she’s after what she’s been after since the beginning.

oh my god….just realized…Will’s alive. and Sid was shocked, Vaughn seemed reluctant to talk about it…maybe that’s related to the device…Rimbaldi was obsessed with immortality….I wonder….

First FEW episodes? I wouldn’t doubt if it wasn’t explained for a season, or two.

Also I’m 100% sure that mommy dearest DIDN’T turn, it was part of her plan from the begining. This is why no one likes smart people :)

This ain’t yo momma’s serial, it’s not always good vs bad, bad always works with bad, good never does bad things, or that good or bad even exist…

What…you mean like how they tend to give us the first
few minutes of the show and then go back and show us all
the events that lead up to it (usually getting us back
to where we started either half way through or just before
        the end?).

this is actually one of my favorite things about this show. My wife and I spend a lot of time trying to figure out what some of these people are really after…and whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing. I’m still trying to figure out whether Sloane is after something good or bad. I’m only sure that he’s “bad” because of who he is, what he’s done, and the fact that the scroll being show to him is supposed to have been catastrophic. But I think he’s only evil because of what he’s going to DO with his knowledge.

more like all those rambaldi pieces from season 1 that we still don’t know about :)

Knowing how they tend to get right to the meat of every episode they will explain what happened in 5 minutes. That is the thing that really bugs me about this show. They resolve things too quickly. They are focusing on action, action, action and have very little plot development. Everything seems to revolve around this Rimbaldi device but the mythology over this is overwhelming the show. My complaint about the X-Files mythology as well. I wish they would take some time to develope an arc of stories that would span 4 or 5 weeks to properly explain the story line. Everything seems to fall into their laps week after week. And sexual tensnion between characters is always better than sexual action. That is what kept X-Files going while the same thing that is heppening here killed Dark Angel. I probably won’t watch next season. I’m getting very disappointed in the show.

  3. Bothersome
It was a great episode (or episodes whatever). But what REALLY bugs me, is that they only waited until they THOUGHT they found the second double before making a concerted effort to find out who it really was. [jimmy] I mean, come awn! [/jimmy] They should have been on top of it from the very beginning. Also, shouldn’t they have thought of other people it MIGHT be? For example…. people who have access to the apartment. They didn’t even consider fran(?) until the very end. Unrealistic to me, but then again the whoe show is pretty unrealistic.

As for the twist… I thought it was weak. It just seemed like they weren’t sure what to do, so they’ll toss such a huge twist in that they can figure out how to explain it in the off season.

Still.. its a GREAT show… and it was a great season finale.. i’m just a nit-picker…

Absolutely, I was tellin that tot he tv the whole time. How could the CIA examine anything like that and not examine her, she’s been there the whole time.

It’s unrealistic, but very entertaining. heh

  4. Rymbaldi
One thing missing from everyone’s review is whatever device Rymbaldi created, how would it help him. He created something he, apparently, knew could not be used in his time. So he must have created something that can bring him to a time when the device can be activated and used. To me that leaves two options a time machine, which explains Syd missing two years, or something that brings someone back from the dead, which means maybe Syd died and it took two years for the device to work…which could also mean Rymbaldi could be alive at this point too…
