Fox, UPN fall schedules

Media Week has the fall schedules for UPN and Fox. UPN hasn’t moved Enterprise to match the move in Smallville, so they will be in direct competition. On the genre front, Fox offers True Calling with Eliza Dushku on Thursdays, while UPN offers Jake 2.0 in the hour after Enterprise.

  1. true calling..
What do you guys think, cancelled by midseason or will it make season one?

    yeah FOX.

With Eliza Dushku, I’d expect a full season out of it. However, putting it up in the Thursday 9pm timeslot could prove fatal. If it were up to me, I’d have put it in the timeslot they’ve got Skin in on Mondays. Still, with Friends moved up an hour and Will & Grace in the 9pm slot on NBC, it might have a decent chance.

Scratch that. I just looked at the CBS schedule more closely; True Calling, a supernatural police show, has been scheduled opposite CSI. Putting a new police show against a season of a successful police franchise-launcher that’s still going strong is short-sighted and asking to get trounced. I’m starting to get the impression that Angel and Smallville will be the only shows I’m still watching come February.

Oddly enough, being up against the CSI powerhouse could give it more time to develop. Unless they’ve completely lost touch with reality (apart from horrible reality TV), they are going to enter into that move with low expectations. They are probably hoping beyond hope for a third place finish in the timeslot and would be willing to accept fourth (ahead of WB and UPN). If the show is good enough (and obviously marketed well enough) to gain a consistent fourth place, especially if they manage to snag third a time or three, I would expect it to make it for at least the full season.

  2. Has everyone with any sense left Fox?
There is not a single show in the Fox lineup that looks remotely interesting. Well, Malcom in the Middle was funny the first season, and they’ve recovered a *very* little from the disastrous second season, but I think I could delete Fox from my channel listings and never miss them one bit. It’s really sad considering all the really excellent shows that they used to have: Space: Above and Beyond, Dark Angel, Firefly, just to name the ones off the top of my head.

  3. Some small comfort
I’m just comforted to see that Fox cancelled Fastlane.

It’s not much, but it does help ease the pain of John Doe getting the axe. At the very least, I can breathe easy that they didn’t cancel it in order to keep Fastlane.

And I’ll echo the sentiment that there is nothing even remotely interesting on the Fox and UPN schedules. Tru Calling is exactly the kind of series that won’t last the season, so I’m not investing in it. Jake 2.0 sounds pretty stupid, so no watching it. (Although, his ability to mentally communicate with computers is a power I’ve always liked. But not enough to watch.)

  4. Futurama

Not surprisingly, Futurama was cancelled, too. That was expected, but now it’s official.

yea Cartoon network has a hold of it as well as Family Guy but ill never excpect new epsiodes to be made. Good shows though

  5. Not Genre But I Hope People Try It
I finally read through the entire Fox press release, and I want to encourage people to check this show out:

“Luis” starring Luis Guzman. Luis Guzman has been doing such good work for so many years. When I think of him, I think of his guest appearances on Homicide: Life On the Street where he was Stan Bolander’s ill-fated neighbor, and on NYPD Blue where he played James Martinez’s father who showed up when his other son was in trouble with drugs (the latter I consider the best performance I’ve seen him do). What I’m saying is that he’s a heck of a good actor and I hope people give his show a shot – I know I will because I’ve thought for a long time that he deserved a higher profile gig.

BTW, I know he’s had a lot more work but I always think of the above two examples – if by some chance you still can’t think of who he is, here’s

    Homeboys
Man, just noticed they canceled “Homboys In Outer Space”. Why is it they make so many SF movies but very few TV shows? At any rate, I think of CSI as a SF show. After all, it is full of pysudo science. The computer programs they use on that show are way ahead of what we currently have today, at least as far as speed and interface design goes. How about “CSI: Moonbase 23”

Please, please tell me that’s a joke.

That has to be one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen, and I only saw a few minutes of it before my eyes began to bleed.

Plus, it hasn’t been on the air (thankfully!) since 1997.

No kidding. I remember taping 2-3 minutes of it while recording Nowhere Man. Only spaceship I’ve ever seen that was “lowered”. Truly bad.

  6. SuperMan VS BerMan
Well well, methinks the Enterprise ratings will plummet. ;- )

Well, not unless there’s a third show on, or I really get fed up with Enterprise — my DirecTivo has two tuners. Surely no one actually watches TV live any more? Poor souls…

      • Re: SuperMan VS BerMan
Lots of weird people do. At least once a week, someone asks me if I’ve “seen that commercial.” And these are people who know that I skip them all with the ReplayTV or DishPVR (yes, I know it’s sick that there are three tuners worth of PVR in the house). One day, hopefully, they won’t see the light – if they do, then every show is going to be presented in a TNN-like window.

I actually thought ‘Damn, no more Enterprise and then I remembered my
DirecTiVo has two tuners too :)

Of course, I think i’ll need a bigger hard drive in it. Off to get one of
        those.

Oh, wait, forgot about That 70s show. Hmm. Guess buh-bye Enterprise
          or get a second DirecTiVo
