Buffy Season 5 on DVD this year

The season four set of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
includes an insert advertising season five on DVD in 2003. This
could mean that this becomes the first odd-numbered season to
make it out in time for Christmas. It may also mean they’re
accelerating the release schedule now that they don’t have to
worry about overtaking the original TV broadcasts.

  1. When?
Does anyone know the actual date that the fifth season is coming out. I’ve looked around, and I can’t seem to find it, so that leads me to believe that it’s not posted yet. If anyone knows anything, please let me know.

The DVD cards like this generally precede the official announcements
by a month or two. I’ll keep you posted.

Amazon says December 9th. It is hard to find and there is no more information.

they say it will be on Oct. 28th
      hmmm right before halloween

A long gap–yet ebay seems to have some Region 2s offered for sale now. They may not be official—maybe tv taped. But there are some.

BTW, few series benefit more from being watched in big clumps of time than Buffy. Particularly in Seasons 2-3, the seasons had tightly plotted plans and watching with no gaps really makes everything so much better.

In that regard, did anyone pick up the echo of the Season 1 finale in the series (s. 7) finale? When Buffy goes off punning away, and Giles mutters, “The Earth is doomed.” You only pick those things up on dvd marathons..!

  2. WHEN?
ok like many other major buffy fans ask….WHEN IS SEASON 5 coming out. I don’t mean to bug anyone but the internet sucks these days on dvd release dates. so PLEASE if you know when season 5 is coming out will you email me at.

many of you are noting the release of season 5 on e-bay. americans and other region 1 dvd owners beware. while these are official releases (although bootlegged vcds can be found aplenty), they are british/australlian releases (region 2, i believe). for reasons known only to god and the entertainment industry, buffy dvds have been released far earlier in the UK. i believe season 6 is out or about to come out there now, based on my girlfriend’s recent trip to london. aside from buffy’s obvious british fan base (check out the great btvs page on bbc.com), does anyone know why the brits get a heads up on an american series almost a year in advance?!?

as others have noted, the american release is scheduled vaguely for “winter 03.” i believe that they will be out by christmas, due to the marketing opportunities and the recent demise of the series itself. it is very possible that they are indeed stepping up the release rate in order to cash in on fair-weather fans of the series who might not fork over the big buck for the season 7 in two years after their love has been given time to cool. anyone else noted the sudden flux of tv season dvd’s being pumped out now that the suits realize people will pay $30-70.00 for a set? look for the last seasons to come out far more readily that the first 4.

December 9th, 2003…that is when amazon.com is releasing it for region 1…have a nice day!

        Hi,

I stumbled onto this site while trying to find a release date for Buffy Season 5 on Region 1 format. From browsing the site it seems that December 9th is the latest concensus.

However, Tokyowilliams raised the point that we in Britain have already got everything up to season six available, with season seven on the way before the end of the year. I don’t quite know the reason why this happens (perhaps it’s the large fan-base we have), but just remember – we usually wait up to six months for feature film releases in our cinemas, which you can already purchase on dvd.

I did hear that the release had been delayed due to re-recording of the audio commentries. Either way, I like your good selves am awaiting the final three seasons with baited breath.

This seems to happen because we have a larger syndication market in
North America, so they can make more money by selling syndicated
reruns for a while before selling the DVDs.
