Ok, so maybe Scooby-Doo isn’t exactly genre….

But I’m sure we’ve all watched at least one ep of The New Scooby-Doo Movies, wherein the Gang solve mysteries and meet unlikely celebrities. This raises an interesting question for the Bureau….

Several updated Scooby videos have appeared in recent years, particularly popular since the inexplicable success of the big-budget Scooby film. These videos have the gang as young adults, cruising in an updated (and wired) Mystery Machine, once again solving improbable enigmas.

What if they updated the first-ever Scooby sequel series, The New Scooby-doo Movies? In the original series, they met Batman, the Addams Family, Sonny and Cher, Mama Cass, Davey Jones, the Three Stooges, Jeannie, and others. Whom would you want to see them work alongside in the hypothetical Even Newer Scooby-doo Movies?

I’ll go with the obvious: the Scoobies from Buffy. Preproduction work was done on an aborted Buffy cartoon, and the actual series ended with the gang heading off in a schoolbus. The Slayer bus could easily cross paths with the Mystery Machine.

It would be worth it just for Velma and Kennedy’s inevitable “brains vs brawn” rivalry over Willow.

  1. Hmmm. Well,
The first most obvious for me would be Mulder and Scully. I forget where the comment was made (Clerks, maybe?) but the Scooby gang had the exact opposite world view of Scully.

Besides that, I’m coming up short with present day guests…. Stick with genre, and have them meet up with Smallville’s Wall of Weird crew (with or without Clark), maybe let them hook up with the Charmed ones.

Or maybe leave the genre and have them tangle with the Sopranos. ;)

I saw that in the first early Dork Tower comic book. (Reprinted in the “Dork Covenant” trade paperback.)

  2. Never liked scooby doo.
I never could stand the show. Shaggy & Scooby were just to low brow for me

      says someone named “trekkie.”

      oh, the ironing is delicious

        named “trekkie.”

        oh, the ironing is delicious

Was wondering when someone would rise the occasion

  3. Here’s a few for you…
    Scooby-Doo and the Gang meet…
    … Cuthulhu
    … Pikachu
    … The Predator
… The Alien (aaaarrrgh! Scooby-Doo styled aliens!!!)
… a hideous, painful and lingering death
    … Bob the Builder
    … Basil Fawlty
    … Benny Hill
    … Master Computer (TRON)
… Bill Gates (aka Anti-christ, any version there of)
    … their maker
… Jules Winnfield (“…And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.” – Pulp Fiction)

    Just a suggestion. ;-)

    • Doh! sorry forgot one…
      … “Bubba”

Sorry, forgot that one… well, you can’t have such a list without Bubba now can you, hang on, since Scooby is a puppy doesn’t he already count as being one… technically.

      • “It’s a (bleep)ing talking dog.”

        a slow, lingering, horrible death

Yeah, yeah, go for the obvious…. So I will, too (again):
        Scooby meets the Osbournes.

    • Re: Here’s a few for you…
I’d like to see them meet up with Basil Fawlty – that would rank up there with the Germans episode for laughs. Imagine:

“You can’t bring that dog in here!”

      “Wra Rog?”

But maybe that’s only funny in my head….

  4. Velma V. Kennedy for Willow
I Could See That. It’s Be Pretty Entertaining, As Willow And Velma Make Some Jokes About Star Wars, With Xander Getting Along Better With Velma, So The Three Of Them Start Palling Around. Slayer Kennedy Feels Pushed Out, And Starts Talking To Slayer Buffy. Kennedy Starts Getting A Crush On Her, Which Buffy Is Slightly Creaped Out By, And Willow Responds By Trying To Fix Things Up. Peirced-Tongue Scene Ensues.

Though I’d Like To See It Fail, And Kennedy Leave. Then, We’re Left With Velma Consoling Willow. Parting Shot Of Velma Showing Off a Freshly Peirced Tongue.

  5. Sure, it’s genre
The more recent animated Scooby-Doo direct-to-video movies, where they run into real zombies and real aliens, and get hooked into a computer, would certainly qualify as genre.

The live-action movie definitely was genre. It had real monsters and real magical weirdness going on, not just some crotchety guy in a rubber suit.

To answer the question, I’d like to see them meet up with Korn, as featured on South Park.

  6. Someone…
.. who liked the original series and told them to clean up their act! Scoobie didn’t chase cats like a psychotic idiot, he ran away from them! That’s just one example of how they’ve successfully destroyed Scoobie for this fan (of the original) and his wife.

    • Spellchecker == off

      Scoobie

Of course it might have helped if I spelled Scooby correctly.

  7. Movie Version
If You Do A Movie Version, You Could Also have A Daphne On Buffy Fight!
