I don’t know how I feel about this. On one hand, the two have always been distinct in the past, but on the other hand, I’d love to see Jedi Spock.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Burbank, CA – The Walt Disney Company announced today the acquisition of the rights to Star Trek from Paramount Pictures in an estimated 2.4 billion dollar sale. “We are now in a position to reveal our long term plans for both this and Star Wars,” said Zenia Mucha, Chief Communications Officer for Disney. “When we brought J.J. Abrams on board to direct the next Star Wars film, it was the first major step in a series of closed door negotiations to create a single, unified space adventure franchise. The excitement Abrams brings to the table, as well as his experience reinvigorating Star Trek makes him the perfect choice to bring the Jedi into the final frontier.”
“This is not just about bringing together the two greatest space franchises in history, this is about bringing every great space franchise together,” said Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan F. Horn. “Plans are underway to integrate classic Disney films The Black Hole and Flight of the Navigator, and we are in talks with other creators we have strong relationships with to integrate their own properties as well.”
“Peaceful coexistance has always been a major theme in Star Trek,” said Rod Roddenberry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry. “Mr. Abrams is a very talented director and writer, and I look forward to seeing how he can forge the two franchises into a single, coherent vision.”
George Takei has chimed in on this as well, announcing his selection for a role as a new Jedi Master:

“Jedi Mind-melt” could become canonical!
Of course, the franchises have met before, in various unofficial places online.
You know, it’s bad enough that I have to put up with this from Slashdot every year, but now Bureau 42 has gone to the Dark Side of April Fools Day.
Sigh…
Clearly, we have been super frakking awesome with our previous entries. Slid right by you…
