Sorry this week is later than usual. Amazon reformatted the “New Releases” page, making distinct Blu-Ray and DVD lists, which makes these harder to compile. They do, of course, list their digital offerings on both lists regardless of resolution.

Comments | The new anime from Shinichiro Watanabe, creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. However, instead of this series being an action series with a strong focus on music, it’s a romantic dramedy with a strong focus on music, particularly improvisational jazz. Oh, and the music (including the Jazz arrangements) are done by Yoko Kanno, who did the music for Cowboy Bebop.

Comments | This is one of those anime series which fans of the medium have been wanting to get licensed for-freaking-ever. The show is about a girl from an aristocratic household in pre-Revolutionary France, who is raised as a boy. At the age of fourteen, Oscar (who is by now an accomplished swordswoman) is made Commander of the Royal Guards and placed in charge of protecting the queen, Marie Antionette. However, the revolution is coming…

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “the Best of Superman and Twilight Zone sets are good value, if you don’t already own another release.” Alex’s pick will follow in the comments.
Fringe is probably going to end up on my shelf in the near future.
I don’t get the pricing of the set. It’s not a special set, and yet the cost of the Blu-Ray set works out to $36 per season, yet S5 is only $28 on its own, and the others go for $20-22 or so even on Blu-Ray, and total out to $110-115 or so for all 5. Is anyone going to buy a set for $180?
My pick for the week this time is The Rose of Versailles. The reputation of Rose of Versailles has greatly preceded it – making it a series I definitely want to check out.
