Continuum Review: “Second Thoughts”

A drugs-and-gangsters episode– but it works fairly well. This could mark a turning point for the series, for better or for worse.

Premise

The Liber8 factions head in very different directions as Cameron, the police—and Alec Sadler—deal with a drug from the future.

Meanwhile, we learn that time travellers have been far more involved with creating the future than the show has previously acknowledged.

High Point

The show launches a poll as to which side the viewers find most sympathetic. For all of Kiera’s charm and heroism and all of Travis’s criminal dealings, the scripts increasingly makes that a valid question.

Low Point

The gang-members involved in the shoot-out with Cameron and Fonnegra demonstrate appallingly poor aim. Only Imperial Stormtroopers are so imprecise.

The Scores:

Originality: 4/6 This week takes a different direction for the show.

Effects: 5/6 The effects were good, overall. The, uh, items in the case could have been better-rendered.

Story: 4/6 The story works well, and I’m intrigued by the directions taken by the Liber8 factions—even if Travis’s plan unfolds with ridiculous rapidity and ease.

The newly-disclosed time-travel elements could prove interesting—or they could take Continuum down a Primer/Doctor rabbit-hole that the show may not be able to handle.

Acting: 4/6

Emotional Response: 4/6

Production: 6/6.

Overall: 4/6
