Premise

Kiera and Alec realize there’s another time-traveler about when they detect another suit in operation. The suit has fallen into the hands of an aging fanboy using it for cosplay— who soon develops the ideas he’s become some kind of superhero.

Both Liber8 and Kiera want the suit, but only Kiera has discovered its origin. It belonged to her old partner, Elena. Elena also got thrown back in time—but she landed in 1977, and exists in the present as an elderly woman.

High Point

This story made effective use of time-travel, and Karin Konoval shines as old Elena.

Low Point

Liber8’s discovery of the suit involves a needlessly far-fetched coincidence.

The Scores:

Originality: 4/6 This feels a little different than anything Continuum has done before, even if it ends with the requisite battle between Kiera and Liber8.

Effects: 5/6

Story: 5/6 The story offers us a little to think about regarding life’s tapestry, and the choices we make, in between the action sequences. It may not have been subtle, but it was worthwhile.

Jasmine Garza (Luvia Petersen )makes a memorably creepy entrance into the thrift shop, and we get the inevitable cat(suit)fight between Garza and Valentine.

Acting: 5/6 As with this week’s Doctor Who, an extra steals the ep.

Emotional Response: 5/6

Production: 5/6

Overall: 4/6 Next week’s episode, apparently, will finally have people confronting Kiera with questions they should have been asking last season.

In total, “Second Skin” receives 33/42
