Star Trek DVD News

Cinescape
is reporting that Star Trek: Voyager seems poised for
an entirely unsurprising 2004 release, in much the same manner
as Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star
Trek: Deep Space Nine
enjoy. There’s also mention of
complete season packages of the original series being made
available in the future. UPDATE: Gord, founder of TV Shows on DVD,
has just informed me that there was no official annoucement of a
TOS release at VSDA, and that Paramount officials couldn’t
confirm the “interesting speculation” about the release. The
Voyager release is confirmed, but the TOS is still uncertain to say
the least.

  1. complete dvd set
What I would really like is a complete Star Trek dvd set.
Including Movies 1-10, and all tv series episodes.
Including TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voyager on dvd in a complete
set. Maybe even throw in all enterprise episodes for
    archival purposes.

      Let’s see, each season lists for approximately $120 US, and the films could probably go for $15 each… 3 TOS + 7 TNG + 7 DS9 + 7 VOY, with 10 movies… Just over $3000 for everything.

      That’s hardcore, man.

I like being able to skip through the seasons, though… I didn’t grab anything before season 3 of TNG, since I wasn’t impressed with the first two years of shows. When I have extra cash lying around, I’ll complete the collection, but since I’m limited right now, being able to pick and choose is nice. Having that Uber-Collector’s set would be nice, though.

That’d Make An Excellent Prize For… I Dunno. Ending Enterprise?

  2. Now, they just need one more thing.
To explain to use why these DVDs cost $100+ fucking dollars! The same goes for The X-Files. Especially when I can get a show like Buffy for half that! GRRR!

      Three words: Supply and Demand.

As long as Trek fans (and X-Philes to a degree) are willing to pay that much, they will be charged that much. If you wait a few months, you’ll see the price dip considerably (though it’s still steep).

      • Re: Now, they just need one more thing.

It’s the same thing with shows like The Sopranos or Six Feet Under. HBO knows that people consider these shows to be the cream of the crop, so they jack up the price to some ridiculous amount for only 13 episodes! That’s what really kills me.

I mean, sure those shows are good, but not that good.

  3. question
Are they going to make special editions for the rest of the Star Trek Movies? I have the ones that they have already made for the originals and dont want to buy the new ones yet, unless they are going to make them in the “Director’s Cut” style. Does anyone have any idea?
