Batman:Dead End

Alexius
writes, There’s A Fan Film Called ‘Batman:
Dead End
‘ Which Seems To Be making The Rounds On The
`Net. I Liked It, Though It Seems a bit Short. It’s Very Well
Done, As a Film. I Thought The Story Was A Little Disjointed,
But…

Well, Watch It And Tell Me What You Think. I won’t be
able to watch this or any quicktime until I get around to installing
that Crossover plugin. What do you guys think?

  1. It was great! [SPOILERS]

I almost died when the first alien appeared. They managed to integrate so many key pieces of the Batman/Alien/Predator mythology into this short piece. I have a few questions, though:

When the joker was taken up, something metallic fell down to the ground. It appeared to be a set of brass knuckles. I don’t get it. Anyone else have an insight on this?

In Predator 2, the head Predator gave a pistol to Danny Glover as a reward for beating the hunter. Yet in this one, it appeared that the head Predator was going to fight Batman. My roommate disagrees and says that it was giving a reward to Batman (the large knife in its hand). What do you guys think?

Those Were What He Was Wearing When He Hit Batman. It Just Showed That He Lost his Grip As He was Drug Upwards.

First, Joker used the brass knuckles to hit Batman. There was a close up of the kunckles right after he hit him. Second, Didn’t you see all the Aliens behind Batman at the end of the film? The Predators were ready to do battle with the Aliens, not Batman (who didn’t know the Aliens were behind him).

  2. pretty well done!
The alien was a bit fake looking, but a nice suprise.
I can see why it was called “Dead End”.
I don’t think there was any significance to the brass knuckles dropping, I think it was just part of the art of the film.

  3. Make this guy the cinematographer!
They really need to make this guy the cinematographer of the next batman flick – they got the feel right. That scene where he stands up, and the cape pulls in – genius.

That being said, hell yeah, the movie was disjointed. I kept waiting for them to add Doc Ock or something like that. Unfortunately, adding all the extra parts, while cool, dropped it back from the “ohmigod” level to the “oh, okay, fanboy film” level. Clever, sure, but fanboyish.

Overall though, this was better than the last Batman flick (though my friends and I had a grand ole time MST3K’ing Batman & Robin. our joke – B&R: best comedy of the year). For a fan production, A, maybe A-. More bats.

    • Re: The Creator is not just a fan

The creator, Sandy Collora [IMDB link], already seems
      to have a
little bit of a career working professionally.

Yeah, I went looking when I first saw it. (And it really explains how he got such good looking costumes) But at the same time, it does scream “fanboy” pretty loudly.

  4. Quicktime
Not to be too offtopic, but the newer versions of most Free media players (Xine, GXine, Sinek, MPlayer, etc.) handle most Quicktime movies just fine (even Sorenson)… I was able to play the move using GXine and it worked great. :)

I tried the small movie with xine and it didn’t exactly play correctly though was making some kind of motion :) Maybe the RH9 version is old I’ll try playing with it later.

  5. Impressive
For something put together by fans, albeit ones with experience in the field, that was pretty damn good. My only complaint would be the semi-recycled speech from Batman that the Joker gives to Batman.

Question containing spoilers: Was that the Alien looming in the background at the end?

My monitor is on its last legs and the brightness is gone, so I had a little trouble with the ‘dark’ nature of the film.

Yes. There were actually two of them.

      • Re: Impressive
The brass knucles were on the Joker’s fist when he punched Batman. Take a closer look when he says “Can’t you take a joke?”

  6. Best Batman

This could very well be the best adaptation of the Dark Knight ever. No fake nipples or rubber suits here. This is a a no-nonsense vigilante. This is Batman. Sure reall bad guys instead of aliens is more Batman’s style but they certainly got Bat’s personality to a T.

  7. Best Batman Film to Date!
In the past, I’ve seen the four previous Batman films (which starred Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney). I think everyone would agree with me in saying that the last two movies were pieces of $#!%. Recently, I’ve watched “Dead End” and I was blown away. It was Sandy Callora’s directorial debut, and I was thinking: “Why didn’t this guy direct the other Batman films?!?” The film was true to the comics’ dark feel. If you are a fan of the comic, then you would know what I’m talking about. “Dead End” is an excellent film and I would really like to see Callora work on the future Batman films.
