Simpsons, Samurai Jack win Emmys

… and you thought the Emmys weren’t until next month. Well, most of them aren’t, but the “juried” Emmy awards (mostly technical stuff) have already been announced. Hank Azaria won his third Emmy for his work on The Simpsons, and the folks from Cartoon Network’s “Samurai Jack” won an award that I don’t even really know what it’s for. Details at CNN.

  1. Good to hear…
Its good to hear about Simpson’s but much better that Samurai Jack won an award, I just wish they would release it all on DVD, the series had such a wonderful sense of style and use of sound and simplicity it is just so cool.

I just recently started watching Samurai Jack. Its use of sound is what struck me the most. That, and the fact that it sometimes goes for 10 minutes without a word spoken. It’s so astoundingly different than everything else on TV. If they release the show on DVD, I’m all over it like white on rice (mmmm…rice). I’ve got to see this from the beginning!

Had?? Not only is it going strong, this new season has been frelling excellent! And lately they’ve even been running two-parters — I’m really looking forward to the re-return of the Scotsman tonight! (or is it tomorrow — I always forget when things are on now that I have ReplayTV)

  2. One other cool thing to note about the show:
No black lines. Most cartoon shows (actually, all of them except Samurai Jack) have exterior black lines for all characters and objects. SJ doesn’t, which gives it a very unique feel.

Not to mention that Genndi has a great sense of drama and violence – I can’t wait for his Star Wars cartoons – probably the only SW stuff in the past 5 years that won’t suck.

I would take issue with your conclusion having played Knights of the Old Republic, but perhaps you’re not counting video games? :)

It’s not out on the PC yet, so it doesn’t count. Although I may rent it this weekend for my Xbox, just because I have heard a lot of good things about it, but mostly because it’s a D20-based RPG written by Bioware… and since I just finished Undrentide, I need my fix. :)
