“Firefly” movie – production dates set

This
Hollywood Reporter article
has all the relevant details about
the upcoming Firefly movie, distributed by Universal
(which bought the rights from Fox), written and directed by Joss
Whedon. The only question I still want answered is “how soon
can I buy my ticket?”

I’m going to be in my bunk

You meant to say “I’ll be in my bunk…”, and NO! Don’t! You have to go
OUT to see movies! : )

  1. Kepp That Logo Warmed Up
Hopefully we’re gonna get to post some stuff about Firefly here on B452 for a LONG time!

  2. Let The Debate Begin
The press release has a sentence that reads: Universal recently acquired the rights to “Firefly” from 20th Century Fox Television, where Whedon’s Mutant Enemy Inc. production company has a television deal.

So…is the TV deal the old one with Fox, or a new one at Universal?

Mutant Enemy production has a television deal with 20th Century Fox
      Television.
20th Century Fox Television sold the rights to a movie version of Firefly
      to Universal.

As I understand it, Fox keeps the rights of the TV series (ie: They will
take my money for the DVDs), but they sold the rights for the movie to
      Universal.

The bad news: Fox will get my money.
The good news: They won’t be involved in the production or promotion
      of
      the movie.

Yeah, I got a laugh out of it too. I found it surprising how many people in that discussion stated that they “didn’t like Firefly” and they “couldn’t get into it”. Just goes to show you that Fox really did pooch it to begin with. I wonder what part of ‘in order’ Fox doesn’t understand?

Of course, it couldn’t be because it wasn’t a good show, could it?

Well, let’s see…. I enjoyed it, it had Whedon’s typically good writing, the actors seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Damn, you’re right – it was a horrible show! There was a plot line that continued from episode to episode! Thank god for FOX showing it out of order or we might have had another of those horrible Babylon 5 type shows on our hands.

Thank you, UncleJam, for pointing out what so many of us didn’t notice. If it hadn’t been for you, I don’t know what would have become of us!

All I’m saying is, as much as we all love to bust on Fox for “screwing up” and cancelling shows we like, that doesn’t automatically mean those shows were good to begin with.

There were things I liked about Firefly and things I didn’t, but overall I just didn’t buy the universe and didn’t think it worked, didn’t think the scripts were that great, and didn’t think the actors were all that good either.

And for the record, I would love another B5-type show rather than yet another episodic-only, no continuing plot line piece of garbage. But I didn’t think Firefly had what it took to be that show.

Watch (or better yet, show to someone unfamiliar with it) the first season of B5, out of order, and tell me if you (or the person who was shown it) think it would have been renewed for another season.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the answer of the newb would be “No”.

Well, slashdot is infested with trolls and reavers. :(
Since this is a much smaller site, we only have one.

  3. Reviews of Unaired Eps
Let me go on record here as saying I hope B42 does reviews of the 3 unaired eps in December once the DVD comes out so we can post for just a little while as if it were the good old days. Guys? Thoughts?

I’ll probably have to hold off spending my own money on the DVDs, but
the full season review can come out after Christmas. Since Space: The Imagination Station
will air the entire series, in order, for Canadian markets (starting
Monday, September 8) I may be able to give those episodes normal
reviews. I asked for opinions over the summer as part of the “what do
you want to see reviewed” article, and all three replies asked for a
      full-series review.

    • Re: Reviews of Unaired Eps
I imagine someone here will. Meanwhile, those in Canada or able to receive Space will get to see Firefly in order Monday evenings, beginning Sept. 8.

      • Re: Reviews of Unaired Eps
So what are the odds fiziko and I would post the same news about Firefly at 4:15 am (site time) on September 5th?

Any idea on which cable/sattelite service I might be able to get Space? I have DirecTV (and I’m in Jersey), but would be willing to switch.

I Did Switch, Recently. I Went From Paying ComCast About $40 A Month To watch Four Episodes Of Angel (No Buffy Left, And Everything Else I’m Willing To Miss), To Downloading Episodes As I Find Them Online. I’ve Been Successful Enough That I Can Watch Angel Just As Regularly Via My DSL Line As I Can Via Cable.
