Weekly New Releases – August 6, 2013

The July release that excites me most wasn’t available from Amazon. I’ve learned that Gargoyles: Season 2, Volume 2 was released as a Disney Movie Club exclusive. If anyone wants a club invite for special sign-up deals, email me at [email protected] and I’ll send it to you.

Action Jackson

  • Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Comments Blaine: I wonder if the misspelling of “Craig T. Nelson” on the sample image will also appear on the Blu-Ray itself.
Berserk: Golden Age Arc II: Battle for Doldrey
Amazon
  • DVD: US, CAN
  • Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Rightstuf
  • DVD: US
  • Blu-Ray: US
Comments Alex: Also, putting the Eclipse (which will appear next movie) on the cover is a nice bit of foreshadowing for fans of the show and manga. RightStuf is offering a Band of the Hawk Drink cosey if your order it from them. I kind of wonder if, for movie 3, they’ll have a Curse Mark drink cosey, so you can tell the world that Eldrich Abominations want to kill you.
Black Lagoon: Roberta’s Blood Trail
Amazon
  • DVD/Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Rightstuf
  • DVD/Blu-Ray: US
Comments Alex: OVA series basically serving as Black Lagoon’s Third Season, featuring the turn of the ex-spec-ops Maid From Hell, Roberta, who is going to go on Roaring Rampage of Revenge that I’d rate at about 3 Kill Bill Vol. 1’s (in terms of body count).

Comments Alex: Anime series about, basically, two social outcasts who form a club at their school for social outcasts. Judging from the premise, I’m surprised this show doesn’t have “Message in a Bottle” by The Police as it’s opening. The Special Edition comes with an artbox.
Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
Amazon
  • Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Ishtar
Amazon
  • Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Comments Blaine: The cover quote is “undeniable hilarity,” attributed to Mike Clark of USA Today. I know people who would deny that. True story.
King of the Streets
Amazon

  • Blu-Ray: US, CAN
Comments Alex: This is billed as “China’s first street fighting film”. I’m assuming they mean “Mainland China”, and they’re ignoring Hong Kong.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “As a fan of the Black Lagoon TV show, I’m going with Roberta’s Blood Trail.” Blaine says, “Sword in the Stone and Robin Hood are easily my two favorite traditionally animated Disney titles. If Disney isn’t your thing, go with The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), particularly if you also grab the 1934 version, now in the public domain, for an analytical comparison.”

One reply

  1. A Boy and his Dog is a terrible, terrible movie. It’s just about aaaaalmost worth it fro the last line, though. Almost.
