Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, ” I’m going with the Captain Harlock – The Complete Series. I’ve been a fan of Leiji Matsumoto’s Captain Nemo-inspired space pirate for quite some time, and I’d love to add Harlock ’78 to my shelves.” Blaine says, “I’m going with Elementary: Season One.”

  1. I don’t have any money right now, but if I did, I’d go for Elementary.

People really had a lot of hate for it, but I liked it. Yes, it’s not Sherlock, but I’m glad it’s not. A US version of Sherlock couldn’t be as good, and would draw even more hate. It’s a different take on the material, and especially with the twists at the end of the season, you can tell they aren’t afraid to change more than just Watson’s gender and the setting.

I find it fits a niche between an homage to Sherlock Holmes (Shows like House and Psych) and those that are truer to the source or try to look like they are anyhow (Movies, Sherlock, etc)

    • Agreed. Elementary never hooked me into becoming a regular viewer (I can only handle a few shows at one time), but I thought it did fine as a Holmes-inspired series. It never tried to be a direct adaptation.
