Premise

Daredevil, Wolverine, and Spider-Man, against a squad of
people
trained to kill Wolverine. If it weren’t for all the innocent
people
around, it would have been a cake walk.

High Point

Daredevil’s interactions with Spider-Man. That seems so
much more in
character than thier first Marvel meeting.

Low Point

What could I consider to be the low point?
We still haven’t seen Ultimate Daredevil in combat, so
that’s a bit of
a disappointment. Otherwise, it’s an excellent issue.
There’s very
little to complain about.

The Scores

The issue has some original moments. The
rooftop
Wolverine/Spider-Man conversation, for example, adds
depth to
Wolverine’s character, which has been sadly lacking in the
past. Too
bad it’s standard redemption stuff. I give it 4 out of 6.

The artwork is fantastic. Gary Frank and
David Finch on the
same day; it’s a great day for comic book art. The
characters look
great, and the colours are just amazing at producing the
gritty night
feel. I give it 6 out of 6.

The story is shaping up well. The “city full of
heroes” idea
is fitting in well, bringing out some plausible cross-over and
interaction material. The villain is still playing well,
although we
don’t see much about her that we haven’t seen already. I
give it 5
out of 6.

The characterization of Daredevil in particular
is
excellent. Wolverine and Spider-Man both come through
clearly,
and they have a moment that reveals depth for Wolverine,
and growth
for Spider-Man near the end of the issue. I give it 6 out of
6.

The emotional response this produced was
excellent. I was a
little let down that I still didn’t see Daredevil cut loose, but
he
wouldn’t have given the way the situation changed
compared to how the
last issue ended. I’m pumped and ready for issue 38 on
October 8 (or,
in my case, October 10). I give it 5 out of 6.

The flow is still smooth, given that there’s only
one scene
change in the entire issue, and that David Finch can draw
action
well. I give it 6 out of 6.

Overall, it’s another comic book written by
Brian Michael
Bendis. I give it 5 out of 6.

In total, Ultimate X-Men #37 receives 37 out
of 42.
