Petition to get rid of the Enterprise , Season 3 theme

Enterprise in season 3…all but ONE. Please get the word out
about this petition

Bring back the original Enterprise theme
here.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the original version, but at least the vocals
and instruments belonged together.

    • Re: Samples?

For those of us avoiding the B&B garbage, anyone got samples to
      compare?

They replaced the instruments with drums and guitar, but left the vocals
unchanged. It sounds like the musicians are playing upbeat rock while
the vocalist is slowly steeling himself for a long and difficult road ahead.
I prefer the major, inspirational lyricless scores for the opening on
something as ambitious as Star Trek should be, but the
original theme was very appropriate for something with lyrics.

  1. Wow
That new theme must be one bad theme if fans prefer the old theme to
the new, the old theme. I remember that the theme was one of the bad
things that people had to say about the pilot.

    For historical interest I will
point out that it was on theangrymob‘s*
    high point in the original
    review, and of the
10 comments, 5 didn’t seem all that thrilled with the original theme.

    * Technically shouldn’t I have phrased that sentence as “the
theangrymob’s…”?, I thought so at first, but the two the’s sure rolls of
    the keyboard very oddly.

I don’t think so, as he is a person. Let’s use Fiziko as an example, and simply sub his name into the original sentence: “…I will point out that it was on the Fiziko’s high point….” doesn’t work, whereas “…I will point out that it was on Fiziko’s high point….” does. You’re just getting thrown by the ‘the’ in theangrymob’s name (say that three times fast!).

And to be slightly more on topic, when I watched the show last week (I skipped this week – went out for beer with an old friend and had a much better time) I went from wanting to simply smack B&B around to outright murderous rage, simply by listening to the theme. It’s bad. Very, very bad. They added drums to DS9 with ease, as it was a classical number that was lacking in percussion, and apparently thought they could do the same here. They can’t.

      So, to close, one ‘the’,

I like beer, anger, less drums.

      DS9 theme best

I’ve not heard the new theme, but that is from about two years of
practice of me scrambling for the TiVo remote to fast forward through
      that god-awful theme.

I mean come on, every other Star Trek series wether you liked it or not
had a decent intro theme. A nice, lyricaless theme that gave you a nice
      sense of adventure.

Instead you got this Rod Stewart sounding whiny song. Didn’t think
they could make it anyworse. though I don’t think I’ll ever find out
because I don’t want to make my ears bleed again.

      • Re: Wow
Long live TiVo! I heard just enough on the first episode to realize the theme had changed, but not been totally replaced. Blip-bloop! outta there. Oddly enough, I don’t even remember skipping the theme this week; I must have fully reflex-ified my reaction to it :)

Oh, and BTW, the Voyager theme held no sense of adventure for me, unless you consider falling asleep an adventure!

  2. IMHO….
Respectfully fizko, I think hat the theme song is the *least* of their problems right now. I actually liked the season opener (except for the gratuitous booby shot), thought the second episode was so…so…with some less than spectacular acting by Bacula.

And as for the third episode! …the Enterprise discovers a race of aliens who came from a ship called "Enterprise" …..didn’t Boob & Boob do variations of this already on Boringer AND TNG both ?? I’m thinking "spacial distortions" and let’s do the time warp again(sigh)….

Things don’t bode well guys and gals…they don’t bode well at all….

As for the opening theme…heck I wouldn;t mind if they opened with a frickin’ Barry Manilow tune if they could only write a !@##$@! decent script !!

I agree. I think the best message this petition can send
B&B is that the song isn’t the aspect of the show that was
most broken and in need of correction. I gave the season
premier a shot, and it didn’t convince me that the rest of the
      season was worth my time.

  3. scrap the theme
I’d rather have the theme replaced with a voiceover by Bakula beginning with “Space…”

  4. I like the theme
I’ve always liked the theme. I like the new one.
Why does every trek series have to follow the same formula?

Trek fans want something different, but they don’t. They don’t want the same old stuff, but they do.

    Make up your minds!

Hey! Who let Braga into the forum ??

It can be different, or it can be similar, so long as it’s worth watching. Chez ‘Shredder, we might check out reruns of eps that garner significant “this doesn’t totally suck” buzz. Otherwise, we’re not going near Boobyprise.

Different? We missed Firefly (save for one ep) in its original run. And while the “correct order” reruns on Space aren’t turning us into quite the rabid fans that the other writers here are, it’s definitely worth watching, so we’re getting our “TV-SF” fix that way.

Firefly. Now that show had a great theme song. It’s still stuck in my head, even though I can’t shake the terrible irony of the lyric, “You can’t take the sky from me”. Darn Fox!

Well…. I reckon it fits the show’s concept just fine. Boobyprise did have a great image sequence which went with the premise. They still using that image sequence?

  5. My .02
OK, hated the old them, TiVoed through this seasons theme without even noticing it. If it has lyrics (other than a voice over from a crew member) then it is just wrong. I think Star Trek (conceptionaly speaking ) should be larger than anything that can be summed up with lyrics. Heck, it would make me happy if they replaced their current theme with the Battle Star Galactica theme, now that had some umph. I thought the DS9 and Voyager themes were a bit slow, but at least I didn’t hate them and think they were totally inappropriate.

First two episodes of the season… good. Third show… probably won’t watch because the preview made it look very very very bad. I think I’ll just go play Voyager: Elite Force for my weekly Star Trek fix, so far it seems better than either show. Speaking of which, in V:EF you play a member of a tactical squad, much like the marines in Enterprise. Only, in V:EF they use the team! What a concept! In last weeks episode did anyone else notice that the officers/crew members out numbered the marines! WTF! One non-marine makes sense, two would be ok, three is pushing it and four would be right out.

And while I am bitching, it seems to me that the operations room would be manned just about 24×7 by… operations people. Why would the same officers that ususally occupy the bridge be the only ones in operations? Makes no sense. At least Boob & Boob could stick some background characters in there to make it look like they were doing analysis of data. Maybe I am downgrading last weeks show to just ok.

Sorry for the rant, but at least I got that off my chest. It just seems a waste that a little more thought on the writers/producers part and this could be a great show.

    • Re: My .02
Aaah but they have no data to analyse.

The new theme is absolutely disgusting. The new season is little different to the old one, there’s no sense of a mission or anything, Bakula is extremely disappointing after his time in Quantum Leap, and the Delphic Expanse is looking more and more and more like a gimmick thrown in because they thought it would make it more interesting.

Honestly! I’ve got better ideas for new Trek series than this pile of poo.

      • Re: My .02

and the Delphic Expanse is looking more
and more and more like a gimmick thrown in because they thought it
        would make it more interesting.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck…

  6. Bring back the old
I actually like the old theme. It was fitting, subdued, and well-matched
to the clearly patriotic display and in some ways was appropriate after 9/
11 (the show premiered right after 9/11/01, remember?). The upbeat
music absolutely blows in comparison. Bring back the old!!!

  7. Why?
Who cares, what matters is the show itself. If you like season 3; why complain about something so minor. If you hate season 3/Enterprise; I’m sure you’ll find other stuff to complain about.

    • Re: Why?
i think that the new ENTERprise theme song is really good, and for
the people who think that all the star trek theme songs should be
only instrumental, why? what’s wrong with a little change? i didn’t
like the old ENTERprise theme song as much as the new one, but i
still think that it was better than the old, dull lyric-less themes. and if
anyone replies to this rudely, i want to get the upper hand right off
the bat, so KISS! MY! ( o )!
