Arrow Discussion: “Broken Dolls”

Fiz will have his review of this week’s Agents of SHIELD up soon. Meanwhile, we can discuss DC’s weekly hero tale. This episode brings us a serial killer stalking Starling City, two female characters facing possible death, and Ollie hunting the Canary.

We also get references to at least two other characters from the larger DC world.

  1. So the cliffhanger was resolved exactly as I guessed, and I was not disappointed.

They’re really sticking with the “no superpowers” bit so far, relying on technology and skill. Which is good, to a point.

Given the Canary’s actions/motivations even if I didn’t already know it was Sara it wouldn’t be hard to guess.

Felicity volunteering to be bait seemed a bit … odd. Of course she did regret it, but I suppose perhaps it was motivated by the fact that the guy was targeting women specifically. Still it was quite a step up for her. And also the way Oliver stopped to check on her rather than continuing to chase the bad guy shows quite a bit of character development/change compared to how he was last season.

The reference to Ra’s al Ghul implies she was a part of the EvilLeague of EvilAssassins/Shadows, no? And just how many different ways will people pronounce Ra’s al Ghul in various media?

The “conversion” of Det.Officer Lance seems a little hasty but understandable given the circumstances. Laurel may be on her way back to the other side as well.

There wasn’t any real clear high point or low point for me this week. The whole legal business is a bit meh, but if that means seeing more of Teryl Rothery on TV every week or two, I’ll take it.

How many different ways do foreign names of people and places get pronounced in reality?

      • Quite a lot, especially ones that have unusual spellings and such. It just strikes me funny how it seems each time it’s spoken in the cartoon, movies, and here, that it comes up different.

I lost track of how many different ways they pronounced Goa’uld and Naquadah on Stargate.

        • Don’t get me started on this. My name is virtually unpronounceable in English. I eventually got tired of people massacring it and just started using a different one.
