Weekly New Releases – October 29, 2013

We are in the last week of October, so the horror releases have slowed down while the Christmas releases continue to ramp up. Why do those seasons overlap? I don’t know, but they do every year. See Chuck and Beans for excellent commentary on this.

Comments Alex: Episode of PBS’s acclaimed documentary series, on the moment where Orson Welles put himself on the map, and scared the pants off a helluva lot of people. As an aside, I remember listening to the radio play on a vinyl record when I was in middle school, and I thought it was still very effective. You can listen to the radio play on YouTube here, or download an audio version here.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “I’m going with Wings of Honneamise, with a side of the American Experience episode for people who want to watch something more relevant to Halloween.” Blaine says, “I’m going with Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. Yes, it’s horrible, but in a fun way.”

  1. I lose touch with American Experience on a regular basis (and their schedule is not overly predictable), but it remains one of the best documentary series out there.
