Comments Alex: Science fiction anime produced by Leiji Matsumoto, related to the series Galaxy Express 999, though it’s not in the same universe as that series. Calling this the complete series is something of a misnomer. This is the first season of this show – subsequent seasons came out in Japan, but were not licensed for a US release.

Comments Alex: Film by Wong Kar-Wai about Ip Man, the man who trained Bruce Lee. I’m not sure if this is the Chinese release of the movie or the US release. There is a significant narrative difference between the two cuts.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “While Time of the Doctor has got my interest, as I haven’t seen it yet, I don’t feel comfortable recommending it. However, I do feel comfortable recommending Nadia or, if you’re looking for a less expensive series, Galaxy Railways.” Blaine says, “Time of the Doctor and Columbo are both must-owns, even if Columbo is a rerelease. Of the titles I haven’t seen, 12 Years a Slave sounds promising, and The Grandmaster hit my radar when Alex included the magic words Wong Kar-Wai in his description.”
