Not surprised that R2-D2 is returning – R2 is probably the easiest character to bring back.
True– but in my mind, R2-D2 and C3PO blunder into the plot at the start of Star Wars/A New Hope, and had no previous involvement with such matters.
I will be cautiously interested in their post-original-trilogy adventures, however.
