100 Greatest Martial Arts Classics
Amazon | |||||||||
Comments | Blaine: Again, Amazon’s description has the full title list. Alex: And by “classics”, they mean lots of public domain martial arts films, including lots of Lee-sploitation films. Seriously, the box says that there are “Bruce Lee” films in the box – but the only “Bruce Lee” films appearing in this are ones where he appears in stock footage. There are some other little known martial arts films in the collection that make it look appealing for me, if only because it gives me about 100 movies worth of review fodder for my show.

Comments | Alex: The WWE would like to remind you that Dave Bautista, who is appearing as Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy, used to wrestle in the WWE, and hopes you’ll buy this DVD set because you enjoyed or are planning to enjoy the movie and would like to see more Batista – and to also go see him on WWE events while they try to promote their shows through the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. |
Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “of the titles I’ve seen, Firefly and Doctor Who are must-own. Of those I haven’t seen, Cosmos looks very interesting.” Alex says, “I really recommmend getting Cosmos. As someone who doesn’t have cable, there isn’t many shows that I’d describe as “Appointment Television.” Cosmos is one of the shows that fits that criteria.”
These “100 Greatest” releases obviously take some liberties with the meaning of “Greatest”! Still, I have the SF one from a few years ago, and I’ve examined a horror one. If you can get them down the road at a reduced rate, they are worth it for the few gems buried in the mix (polished or otherwise).
