WB Blinks First, Moves Batman v Superman Release Date

After Guardians of the Galaxy soundly cleaned up at the box office, Warner Brothers decided to move the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to March 2016, rather than go head-to-head with Captain America 3 in May of 2016.

I would call that a very smart move, given how hot Marvel properties are right now. It may also signal a vote of no-confidence in the film as a whole, but it’s pretty early in the process to make that assumption.

  1. I’m not sure what was more telling. Them balking at the date, or the “schedule” of upcoming DC comic and “WB Event” movies that are meant to imply there are a bunch coming including (presumably) at least one Justice League movie, which looks suspiciously like the Marvel schedule.

    • I’m just hoping the success of Guardians convinces Warner that comic-book superheroes don’t have to be dark and angsty to work (even the ones that have darkness in their past).

Dear DC: Stop turning your entire franchise into Frank Miller’s Batman.Thanks.

      • As long as they keep turning out their Direct-to-Disc animated films, I don’t really care what they do with live-action. Now, just do “Red Son” dammit.

      • Indeed. I don’t know where the penchant for “grit” originated, but the movies should, at their core, be fun.

Me am not wanting Bizarro movie. Me think it would suck.
