Comments | Alex: Paul Heyman would like to inform you that his client – Brrrrrock Lesssssnar – who broke The Undertaker’s streak, beat John Cena within an inch of his life at this Pay-Per-View, and took his WWE World Heavyweight Title. No cheating. No tricks. Plain, simple brutality. |
Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “if you somehow don’t already own Ghostbusters, grab it now. Otherwise, Castle: Season Six is my top pick.” Alex says, “While I really like Ranma 1/2, as history shows again and again how nature points out the folly of men – I think I’ll have to go with Godzilla (2014).”
Ok, first thing first: The Party, starring Peter Sellers, is one of the funniest and most amazing movies I’ve ever seen. I’ve watchd it dozens of times, and I still keep finding new stuff. Now it’s from the ’60s so some of it is a bit outdated (Peter Sellers plays an Indian, for example), and there’s not a whole ton of dialogue (LOTS of visual humour) and there’s a lot of jokes that you might miss about the inner workings of hollywood in the ’60s, and the ’60s in general, but it’s still friggin hilarious (and makes it worth re-watching repeatedly). It’s the forgotten Peter Sellers/Blake Edwards/Henry Mancini movie.
(Sadly it looks like the blu-ray is a straight DVD transfer rather than a new film transfer – the quality is pretty much identical to the DVD release).
Now, second point: did I miss Arrow having a third season and The flash havin a first one?
“Birdie Num Nums.”
As you say, dated badly in places, but it parts still hold up as comedy. I can think of a few comedies from the era of which only the first half can be said.
Yeah, some of the outdated bits are things like people smoking at the dinner table!
By the way, if you’ve never watched this movie with the Indian half of your family, you’re missing out.
Re: Arrow S3 / Flash S1 – They’re basically subscriptions to the current seasons you’ll get as they air and not full releases of past seasons.
That doesn’t count as a release! (;
When do those start airing, anyway? I think we should have a “These SciFi Shows Are Gonna Start Airing Soon, Jethro!” article on a regular basis.
Arrow starts on Wed, Oct 8th at 8 EDT on CW. Flash starts on Tue, Oct 7 at 8 EDT also on CW.
Others of interest:

Constantine starts on Fri, Oct 24 at 10 on NBC
Galavant is still TBA, sometime in 2015 (Looks like fun)
Once Upon a Time comes back on Sun Sep 28 at 8 on ABC
I’m sure there are some I missed that might be of interest to others… That’s just from my season pass notes for this fall. :-)
Castle is the last Monday of September, I believe. Perhaps second last.
Thanks. The returning shows will show up on my feed, it’s new ones I need to know about (: Gotham is the Batman prequel, right? I have no idea what Scorpio is, but I seriously doubt it’s an awesome Farscape prequel… never even heard of Haven, Agent Carter and Galavant… to name a few…
Yes, Gotham is the Batman prequel. Scorpio is about a team of genius-type people who help solve crimes or prevent terrorism or somesuch thing. (A Farscape prequel would be much better!)
Haven is a SyFy show loosely based on a Stephen King short story (The Colorado Kid) and it’s in its 5th season. It’s pretty good, but I’m not so sure about how this season will go.
Agent Carter is a Marvel show, spun off from Captain America and set in the 40’s/50’s.
Galavant is a musical comedy set in the middle ages or so, the guy who played Lassiter on Psych is the King.
