well, the story is picking up considerably – we’re beyond speculation on a lot of things, and beyond the “hey, look who it is” stage. I especially liked the “recap” on the first page that gave me some hope for the future – we see messr. gaiman standing there with the artist, explaining to everyone the story so far. the artist looks up and says “so what’s with all the little dinosaurs running around?” or something to that effect, and neil goes “we’ll get to that”. so all the loose ends *will* be tied up…just going to take three more issues to do it. he’s just finishing writing number 8 now, though.

additionally, supreme power is pretty cool…I’m definitely getting into that one…though, as was pointed out to me previously, the similarities between the original JLA (well, not original, but the best known) is…well…at times so similar it screams “knock off!!”. on the other hand, it’s really well written.

The Squadron Supreme is an approved knock off of the JLA.
Back in the late 1960s, Marvel and DC wanted to cross over the
Avengers and the JLA, but the lawyers had issues with using the
actual characters. As a compromise, in the same two months,
the Avengers travelled to an alternate dimension and met a
team with the same abilities and personalities as the
(then-current) JLA, while the JLA travelled to an alternate
dimension and met up with a team with the same abilities and
personalities as the Avengers. The DC-Avengers didn’t really
go anywhere, but the Squadron Supreme have appeared off
and on. There’s even a great line in JLA/Avengers #1 where
Hawkeye describes the JLA as a bunch of Squadron Supreme
      wanna-bes.

we’ve discussed this before…I understand the issue…but at the same time it’s sometimes hard to go “oh, wow” instead of “yah…that’s just like [jla member]”.

It bugs me more that they made Nighthawk a black guy.
I’d thought this series was going to be some sort of backstory to the in-continuity Squadron, but since the real Nighthawk’s a white guy, this has to be some sort of Ultimate SS.

Has there been any word on what’s going to happen to the Street Fighter series Udon was doing for Image?

  3. Whee!
Actually, I’m going back this evening to sell some of my back issues of Exiles (the local shop is fishing for issues 1-30 due to demand, apparently), and pick up a couple other things that looked interesting. Yesterday, though, I picked up 1602 #5, Hellboy Weird Tales #6, plus a few other books. Good stuff, but particularly 1602.
