  1. Priceless moment
The very end “I can run faster than that car”

Then “Dick” disappears off scene and you hear the “NnnnNNNnNNNN” of the 6 million dollar man :} Priceless

Also… Jake telling Lu how things were gonna happen at the end was great.

Yep, that was my favorite line in that whole episode. Pretty good overall.

At one point during the episode Lu asks someone to blow up a picture, she is then told that they cannot without pixelating it. I think its a first in tv (and especially sci-fi tv) history. Althought the premise of the entire show is based largely on fiction it’s nice to some realism occasionally. Makes you feel that they don’t treat they’re viewers as totally idiots(*).

      Just FYI

Now, if you had a high resolution image to begin with you could obviously zoom in and out to reveal the degree of detail you wanted. No doubt the government does imploy better interpolation techniques and other features such as texture and edge locating. Older satellite images had poor resolution but that din’t stop trained imagery analysts.

Don’t forget that they were looking at a video as well. Assuming the disc they inserted was a mini DVD, the best resolution they’re going to get is 720×576 if it was a PAL format video. NTSC is worse at 720×480.

To compare that to a digital camera, well, that’s not even a half megapixel. A 4 megapixel camera has a max image resolution of around 2272×1704. I can’t imagine trying to get the airplane’s ID off it when it was maybe 10% of a .5 megapixel image… and it was moving.

I don’t know what kind of hardware or software the NSA and Co. has access to, but I think even they’d be hard pressed to pull that off.

Why? Just curious why you think something like that couldn’t work. Agressive bluetooth? Killer wi-fi, em field manipulation? Just a few things that could be to interface.

Because he does it to things that have no wireless interface, like traffic lights and door locks (and don’t even get me started on all the “here let me hold this gadget up that will try all the combinations” that hollywood is all too fond of).

No argument here. What kind of bugs me is the inconsistency with which they use those abilities. For instance, why did he try to manually dial his phone when he was in the car? Why not just nanite it? As I recall, he’s done it before. And why didn’t Jake simply nanite the nuke remote when he got there? He didn’t know it was a dud, so why not get those little buggers working? I found myself wondering the same thing about the car at the beginning, and if not the car, do the traffic light thing and cause a traffic jam.

FYI, in Vancouver, BC (here) the municipalities are moving away from the underground ring sensors at intersections and are mounting cameras to monitor traffic conditions. I read about it in the paper a year or so ago. The systems are supposed to work autonomously but can also be over-ridden by traffic control… wirelessly.

          And Jake is filmed here…

Interesting. OK, I’ll move the traffic lights into the realm of plausibility then.

But with all the shows being filmed in Vancouver, how does anyone get anything done? ;-) You must be tripping over them everywhere. I have seen in other shows one of the gravel pits that’s overused in Stargate, though I forget which one now… And I’ll bet the big yellow piles of something that held the blue crystal beings in Stargate were the same ones used in I think the very first Highlander episode.

            But I digress…

Actually, you bring up a valid point…

Between lunch with Richard and Amanda, racquetball with Tom, Michael and Chris, and dinner with Kristen and then breakfast with Eliza… and Marina, ;) I wonder how I even find the time to post this.

And don’t get me started about Kurt and Goldie. They absolutely keep on insisting on having Christmas dinner at my place. They’re nice enough, but after a couple of drinks they tend to get a little wild. The only reason I said yes was because Goldie promised Kate would stop by as well.

But they’re nothing compared to Ben and Jennifer. Sheesh. They were only visiting and they made total nuisances of themselves. Ok. I can relate to Ben leaving the toilet seat up, but Jenny? What’s up with that? Eliza nearly got stuck. What a day that was!

I gotta run. Halle and Sharon just arrived. I guess today’s shoot ended early.

All three of these points were high points for me. At the end, I was left thinking, you know, this series has turned out really well for something that had the potential to be *soooo* bad. As long as they keep that nonsense with the superiors to a minimum. I like Jim Byrne, but I really don’t like this thread in the show.

For the record, on the prom night episode of Buffy (3rd Season), they’re watching a tape of an attack at a dress shop when Cordelia orders Xander to blow up the image. Xander’s reply is “It’s a VCR

(I can’t believe I knew that. If you’ll excuse me, I’ve got to go watch several hours of professional wrestling so as to restore the balance and avoid becoming Comic Book Guy)

  3. OMG, Lee Majors can ACT?
I dunno, I was thinking Fight Club the entire time… then again I was thinking “Schizo” when I was watching Fight Club.

    I did really enjoy this one, though. Lee Majors was pretty good. Whoda thought? And it’s nice that they acknowledge that they’re ripping off The Six Million Dollar Man. Now they can claim to be an ‘extention’ (;

Just makes you think, though. Look what they did with $6mil back in the 70s. What’s $6mil get you NOW? It’d barely cover the paperwork!

  4. Hoped it was Austin
Was somewhat disappointed at first when I didn’t hear the name Col. Steve Austin at the beginning of the show during Major’s character introduction. I have to admit I was waiting and hoping for the two characters to team up for one show. Nevertheless, I stuck with it. Even though the show did not pair Jake with the legendary bionic man, I still thought this epsisode to be entertaining and especially loved the way-to-bried homage to Austin at the end.
