Marvel Unveils Film Release Schedule

This is their “Phase III” lineup through 2019.

  • Avengers: Age of Ultron: May 1, 2015
  • Ant-Man: July 17, 2015
  • Captain America: Civil War: May 6, 2016
  • Doctor Strange: November 4, 2016
  • Guardians of the Galaxy 2: May 5, 2017
  • Thor: Ragnarok: July 28, 2017
  • Black Panther: November 3, 2017
  • Avengers: Infinity War, Part 1: May 4, 2018
  • Captain Marvel: July 6, 2018
  • Inhumans: November 2, 2018
  • Avengers: Infinity War, Part 2: May 3, 2019

I’m bummed that Iron Man is no longer on the slate, but it sounds like he’ll feature prominently in “Civil War” (Duh). We’ve reported earlier that Benedict Cumberbatch is up for Doctor Strange and Marvel has announced Chadwick Boseman (42, Get On Up) will play T’Challa, the titular Black Panther.

Begin random, unfound speculation below. Like why did they split Avengers III into two movies and will Captain Marvel and Inhumans fit into those films since they occur between parts 1 and 2.

And as a bonus, fun with Mjolnir:

  1. I love a _lot_ of what they’re doing (e.g., Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Black Panther), and how there’s an almost-visible thread running through the movies into Infinity War. That is going to be a really awesome experience!

I’m honestly disappointed they’re going with Civil War. I fear this might be their first significant mistake. :-\ We’ll see how it plays out…

I am sad Black Widow and Hawkeye aren’t getting more attention (i.e., their own movies), especially since they’ve already been introduced, and, while I understand why they aren’t doing a Hulk movie, I’m still kinda bummed by it. So much existing potential, but none of them probably fit into the arcs they are building. :-(

  2. I’m 100% on board. Though not having read these particular story lines I’m not sure how good/bad they may be, I’ve heard good things about them from others though.

Oddly, of all those, the only one I’m even close to being on the fence about is one we already knew, Ant-Man. We’ll find out about that one soon enough though.

I have to wonder if the lack of stand-alone movies for Phase 1 characters is due to contract issues / number of movies they’re committed to being in.
