  1. Finally!!!
To be honest, I didn’t think I would have been able to wait until July. I’m so glad it’s out sooner. Though I am a bit confused as to why the UK Boxsets are released so much farther ahead than the ones here in Canada. I’m just curious. Season Seven is released in the UK in April, and we have yet to grasp our hands on Season Six. Strange. Well, bye for now.

      Well, bye for now.

The UK has a weaker syndication market. Waiting is more
profitable in the US. Also, the market price is higher,
so the European releases can be used to recover the DVD
authoring costs more rapidly than in Region 1. (The
X-Files, for example, is one of the more expensive shows
in Region 1. Part of that is recovering the DVD authoring
costs, designing menus and such, which only have to be
coded for different regions when sold overseas.)

  2. Difference Between Region 1 and Region 2 DVD’s
Having been a fan of Buffy for some time now, I don’t know what the difference between Region 1 and Region 2. Why can’t a Region 2 copy of Buffy work in a Region 1 DVD Player. Is it Letter Box, or is it just the time zone???

It’s price fixing. Unless you’re in Switzerland (where
Region coding is illegal, the government having decided
it’s unfair to the consumer) your DVD player is only coded
to play DVDs produced in your region. So, if you’re in
the UK, you have to pay twice as much money for your
average DVD than Canadians pay for the same product.

  3. Letterbox
Now I understan the difference, but why does only Region 2 get their DVD’s in Letterbox. Not that I want it of coourse (cuts of half the screen) but I’m just curious. I’m new to the world of DVD’s.

In Buffy’s case, Joss insists on releasing his shows in
the intended aspect ratio, which means that “Once More
With Feeling” is the only episode with any chance of a
widescreen release. Angel should be widescreen as of
season three (which is out, but I don’t have it yet to
confirm this), and Firefly was widescreen the entire time.
In many cases, it depends on which masters are available
for a given show. I have no idea why Europe would get
widescreen releases and we’d get letterbox, though.

Also, you say you don’t want Letterbox because it cuts the
screen in half. Do you realize that the alternative is to
cut the image in half? (I’m a big fan of seeing the movie
as the filmmakers intended, which generally means
      letterboxing.)

It is – it came through used at work and I popped on the first disc to check out the quality. Looked pretty sweet, but I already spend far too much money there (that’s the downside to working in a Video Game store) so it didn’t get picked up.

  6. Season Seven
I’ve never been more anxious to know the release date for season Seven. If anybody knows, or knows where to find it, let me no.

      TV Shows on DVD
will have the information as soon as it is available. If
you register (free, non-invasive) and vote for Buffy
      the Vampire Slayer
      releases, they’ll even e-mail you
and let you know as soon as it is announced.

  7. Still Waiting…
I’ve been very patient, but I can’t wait anymore. I keep feeling that I’ll loose interest in the show, and the wait would be for nothing. Why is it that every other show has about a 1 to 2 month wait between releases. Take Friends, a new season is pretty much released month after month, while Buffy’s is about 5 or 6 (and they’re both in Region 1).

:: a fine glorious day when it’s finally released ::
