Premise

The two iterations of S.H.I.E.L.D. are at odds with each other, while Skye starts to realize what she’s gotten herself into.

High Point

Proscuttio and mozzarella.

Low Point

Some parts felt overwritten, such as the reveal of the “bad option.”

The Review

This is somewhat original for the series. We’re getting definite motion in new directions. It also seems to be timed for another turning point the weekend of “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and I’m totally okay with that. I give it 5 out of 6.

The effects are well done, even if there is very little that we haven’t seen before. I give it 5 out of 6.

The story keeps heading in interesting directions. This is barely episodic TV anymore, and really feels like one giant story, but I’m fine with that. I give it 5 out of 6.

The acting is well done all around, saying more than the dialogue alone can say. I give it 5 out of 6.

The production is rock solid, as is the usual. I give it 6 out of 6.

The emotional response was good. The final scene was somewhat predictable, but very welcome. I give it 6 out of 6.

Overall, it’s another strong piece of a puzzle. I give it 5 out of 6.

In total, Afterlife receives 37 out of 42.

  1. I was really impressed with this episode. They are doing a great job of continuing to answer questions while creating new ones. Simmons has been very intriguing – they’re doing a great job of making her an interesting character who cares about her friends, not just someone scared of supers.

And it was awesome to see Coulson as Coulson, again – I think he’s been stuck as Director Coulson for too long. He and Hunter really make a great pair – lots of smart humor, there.

And I agree the acting’s been really impressive, really portraying the emotional and frustrating situations these characters are finding themselves in.

I’m really looking forward to watching last night’s episode, tonight.

  2. As if I wasn’t already excited enough about Age of Ultron, now they have me wondering what the heck is going down on AoS to tie into everything and just who might make appearances…
