Big changes in Marvel’s X-Men lines: Joss Whedon new writer

The solicitations text for May’s X-Men:
Reload
event is out.
(The solicitations for all of Marvel’s other titles
is in there, too.) Among the news is a new
Astonishing X-Men series written by Joss
Whedon with John Cassaday art, and (it seems) a
relaunch of New Mutants as New X-Men:
Academy X
. Also launching are a new
Excalibur title (under Chris Claremont and
Igor Kordey) and a new District X title
about some of the less heroic mutants. Claremont is
also returning to Uncanny X-Men, with Chuck
Austen moving to X-Men (formerly New
X-Men
) along with Salvador Larocca.

  1. interesting stuff

Some good stuff, some bad. Some freakin’ awesome!

Not too impressed with Whedon’s comic work but Cassaday may just
be enough to get me to try out Astonishing X-Men. But
ultimately Whedon will have to get me to stay. I’m cautiously optimistic
about this one. I may get it in TPB.

Claremont and Davis on an X-Men title?!? Ho. Lee. Crap. I’m
so there. Now if only Claremont can tone down his verbosity. But why not
put them on Excalibur? That’s just criminal.

I like what little I’ve seen of Salvador Larocca’s art, but I’ve heard
nothing but bad stuff about Austen’s writing. Probably won’t be getting
    this one.

    Why are they relaunching New Mutants? Ah, what do I care;
I was beginning to lose interest after a strong start, and probably won’t
    continue with the new title.

Igor Kordey on the new Excalibur? No no no no no. As
much as I like Claremont and Excalibur, I just cannot stomach Kordey’s
art. He just about ruined New X-Men for me. I’ll definitely have
    to think about this one.

Official Handbook? If it’s anything like the classic OHOTMUDE series,
I’ll get it. If it’s like that lame-ass loose-leaf version, forget it. I still pull
out my OHOTMUDE issues and browse them, remembering the glory of
late-80’s Marvel, before it all went to hell in the 90’s. I’ve long wanted
Marvel to update this series and do it right.

District X will definitely be a pass. Not a big Bishop fan.

Not getting Exiles currently and don’t see that changing.
The concept just doesn’t appeal to me.

Same with Weapon X, especially if Fantomex is anywhere
    near that book.

Same with Mystique. I don’t see that the character can
    support her own book.

Alpha Flight is a painful one for me. I adored the original
series. The second series was dull and lifeless. This series, IIRC, is going
to be heavy on humor at the expense of the characters. As if having
Lobdell writing the book wasn’t bad enough. Pass.

    Emma Frost and Cable/Deadpool: nope.

Ultimate X-Men I shall continue to get in TPB format.

Oh yeah, I forgot: what happened to NYX? I didn’t see it on the
list. Is it bimonthly and I just didn’t notice? Or is it going to be cancelled? I
      was liking this book.

It’s perpetually slow. It shipped issue 3 in December,
and issue 4 is due in March.

Have you seen other Kordey work? He’s actually quite good under normal circumstances (see: Cable, current issues of Extreme X-Men). What happened on New X-Men was that Frank Quitely was getting too far behind, so they brought in Kordey, who had to do something like one issue per week to get caught up. It wasn’t his fault that his artt in New X-Men looked rushed, but Quitely and the editor who waited ’til the last minute to get a replacement.

No, I haven’t. That’s probably what will ultimately get me to at least take a look at this book. Claremont on Excalibur is just too cool to pass up unless the art is just horrible. From his work on New X-Men I had figured Kordey was horrible but I do realize there were schedule problems and such that might have affected his work. I’ll probably give him a second chance.

  2. I want forge back to the uncanny x men
Hey all! I love the changes in the x men. I just hope that storm won’t see remy at all because of what happen in the xtreme. I love forge and I want him together with storm. I also would love to see the reaction of storm towards jean death. they were best friends. I think that marvel is doing a great job, I just hope that they will pay more attention to the public. Make marvel mine. love ya all.
