Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “of the titles I’ve seen, Soap: The Complete Series and Apollo 13 are both must-own. I’ve heard fantastic things about The Wire, but haven’t seen it yet myself.” Alex says, “I’m really interested in picking up Turn A Gundam, though Apollo 13 and The Wire are certainly something worth getting if you don’t already have them.”

  1. Soap was, indeed, a fantastic show. The humour still holds up, despite it’s age.

I think it’s funny that Bulletproof: Tough Guys of Action includes several movies where the protagonist actually gets shot.

Was anyone else shocked by how bad Jupiter Ascending was? It’s like they edited finished editing the final release and didn’t bother watching it to see if it worked. Some parts of that movie would have been improved dramatically if they changed the music, for example…

    • From what I recall hearing, the Wachowski siblings did not effectively have final cut on the film, though I’m not sure if it’s a case where the studio had someone else recut the film, or the studio said that they would not release the film if the Wachowski’s didn’t recut the film to their requirements. That could lead to the soundtrack dissonance – the film was scored for the Wachowski’s original cut, but when they were forced to recut the film, they didn’t have time to have the necessary parts of the film rescored before release.

  2. The link for Route 66, at least, leads to a documentary sort of thing about the historic highway, and not the belongs-in-a-timecapsule series that ran for 116 episodes, and boasts Karloff and Chaney’s final appearances in make-up as the Frankenstein Monster and the Wolf Man.
