Premise

The Qwardians have created a new power ring, and
given it to someone
with a huge amount of willpower and some definite
issues to work out.

High Point

Guy Gardner picks a meeting place.

Low Point

The rotating artists didn’t blend very well.

The Scores

I haven’t read a lot of Green Lantern stuff, and even
I know that the
“enemies with power ring” story is not entirely
original
stuff. Winick doesn’t pretend it isn’t either, as
you can tell both
by the title of the trade, and by the recaps,
references, etc. that
are found in the text. I give it 4 out of 6.

The artwork suffers from DC’s use of
rotating art teams. The
inconsistencies are very obvious when collected in
this format. I
give it 3 out of 6.

The story is actually two stories, with a
bit of an odd shift
between them. Reading this as individual issues, I’d
have called it
two stories arcs, even though there are little side
events going on
during the first story that set up the second. I
give it 4 out of 6.

The characterization is fairly well done.
Again, we have
clear characters, but no real growth. I give it 4
out of 6.

The emotional response this produced was
moderate. It was an
interesting storyy, but I’ve been more impressed with
Winick’s other
work. I give it 4 out of 6.

The flow is only really obstructed by the
rotating artists,
but they do obstruct. I give it 4 out of 6.

Overall, it’s a decent, but not excellent
collection. I’d
only really recommend it to people who are already
Green Lantern
fans. I give it 4 out of 6.

In total, Green Lantern: New Journey, Old
Path
receives 27
out of 42.
