Can’t say I’m surprised. Unless Lucas lets someone else write and direct, I’d say it’s pretty well doomed. Especially after the last two. Look through IMDB at his writing credits. The only script that he didn’t have help on, that was any good, was Episode IV.

  2. The sad thing is
I think I’ll wait for the DVD. I didn’t see Ep. 2 in the theatre, and the only reason I ended up watching it at all was because my brother rented it and I had nothing better to do that evening.

  3. Sounds good
Gimme a break guys, by any standards I can think of, Eps. I and II were good movies. I liked III & IV better, but this time around Lucas has the disadvantage of having to fit into a predefiend story as well as the disadvantage of the nostalgia of millions of people looking back on the original 3 movies.

The visuals, production, and storyline on the ones ones have so far been great. The only major issue I can find is that there is a lack of characters that I like. The first three had Hans Solo as the friendly badguy you could like. So far I & II have nothing like that. (Jar-Jar doesn’t even come close).

But again, I & II were better in their own right than a lot of the sci-fi movies I’ve seen. I think the problem is that Lucas can’t live up to his own legacy. Basically, he can’t win with the fans.

…except, as you go on to point out, based on the standards of IV, V, and VI.

Ep1 had serious issues by itself; the “virgin birth”, midichlorians, Ani’s constant “accidental” winnings/destructions-of-things. It wasn’t geared at the same audience, and I understand that sometimes that needs to be done, but I felt like I got shafted. But the parts without Gungans and Ani were pretty good.

Ep2 was a big step in the right direction, IMHO – it had a much more “Star Wars”-y feel to it, but a number of places still felt like someone trying to emulate the first trilogy. And some of the dialogue sucked. It was still much better than the first.

This is why I allow myself to have hope for the third. I think the Clone Wars mini-saga is excellent, though too short by far.

my biggest complaint with ep 2? the acting.
part of that was a lousy script, most of it was christian hayden. he came off like a kid trying to ACT angsty – instead of an angsty kid. sigh.
and don’t even get me started on the “I killed everybody! I’m a Monster!” “Do me!” scene between ani and padme. sigh. Even my PARENTS – people who don’t care about the “it’s a star wars movie” factor thought ep. 2. was a bad movie in and of itself.

My biggest complaint about Episodes I and II is that it doesn’t fit with what we thought we knew about the Star Wars saga – including the authorised books which succeed the films. I suppose it’s understandable if George Lucas doesn’t much care about pulling the rug from under them, but those books are good!

As far as I can see it, the whole stuff with Anakin being some kind of prophecised balance-bringer is completely unnecessary, and smacks of an attempt to lend more import to the story than it actually requires, ultimately resulting in cheapening it. The dark side is quite strong enough without any necessity of being a prophesied balance-bringer, thankyou very much.

Although you have to admit, if you’re going to balance out the Jedi, exterminating the lot of them and then allowing one Jedi Knight to rebuild the entire Order is a pretty good way to go about it. Not that Anakin did that deliberately of course.

Rebuilding isn’t necessary for the return of balance – and I think that’s why it
isn’t dealt with in the movies.

Think about it. The Jedi had what, thousands? Ever since the conclusion of
the Sith War, the Sith had two.
Doesn’t sound very balanced, does it?

I think that the wholesale slaughtering of the Jedi is the returning
of balance to the Force. That’s the bitch of prophecies – they don’t always
end up being what they seem.

I would love it if Episode 3 ends up being named, “The Revenge of
          the Sith.”

What Else Could It Be? Okay, The Jedi Are Way On Top, Thousands Follow The Light Side For The Force, Maybe, Somewhere, There Are Two Who Follow The Dark Side. Lets Balance It. Either We Need A Few Thousand Sith (Minus 2) Or We Need A Few Thousand Less Jedi.

Either Way, They Should Have Hunted Down This Chosen One, And Then Used Him To Demonstrate Light Saber Surgury.

  4. already got my ticket :-)
The manager of the local theater (well, local to where I went to college, and where my girlfriend lives, but not exactly local to me) is a good acquaintance (because I spent so much time there in college). He gave me a signed paper that says “Admit One – Star Wars Episode 3”. I plan to hold him to it. :-)
