  1. Hooray!
Not only am I happy that Smallville is FINALLY back, but Christopher Reeves was a great addition last season and I was hoping that he would return. The commercials seem to hint that he’s a bit on the devious side too, which looks cool.

  2. I didn’t get the ending?!?
I know the Kryptonian technology is supposed to be far more advanced than anything we understand, but what happened?

How did Dr Swan wind up with the key at the end? Lionel and Pa Kent were fighting over it in the cave, then there was some kind of vortex, then nothing. That just doesn’t make any sense.

The group of friends that I watch it with thought the same thing. We were speechless. Someone even thought “Is that another key?!” I doubt that. The lighting in the box made it look different, but I think it was the same one. But still, how did he get it?! I’d like to hear some opinions on it too.

Otherwise, I liked the episode. Finally we don’t have another Clark/Lana moment where one of them walks away and they’re both confused. Lana finally told him, basically, “Forget about it, we aren’t going to happen again.” Is this the final closure in this long little game they’ve been playing?

    “Duking it out”

One part of me wishes they would stop doing that, but I think it just got overuled by the part of me that grew up wanting to ride along with the bros. Duke

Also, yeah, how in the heck did Swan get ahold of the key? I’m starting to think that Jonathon isn’t the only person who has made a deal with Jor-El. The only low point to the episode was the fiasco in the cave – Clark pointed it out at the end, as it was another “Do as I say, not as I do” moment (something this series is starting to turn into a cliche).

Another question: are they going straight through from here to the season finale, or are there going to be more breaks?

That was the only explanation I could think of! Since it wasn’t at all clear that Jor-El expected Jonathan to do anything, I thought the “I am waiting for you” might actually have been for Swann either to make up his mind or to do something.

Maybe I’m just persnickety (who, me?) but the caves/Jor-El are getting to be more and more annoying. Clark, who’d you’d expect to be the most curious about how on earth they got there and how they function, seems remarkably incurious, and it seems as though the writers are just making up the back story as they go along. It could be a great plot driver, but instead it’s just a plot device.
