Flash Review: “Escape from Earth-2”

After toodling around Earth-2 last week and getting captured, Barry and company finally confront Zoom. Back on Earth-1, Jay captures the villain when Velocity-9 gives him his speed and his life back. But is it too late for Jay?

And who is Zoom’s Man in the Iron Mask?

Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe
Candice Patton as Iris West / Detective Iris West-Allen
Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost
Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells

Some Unknown Guy as the Man in the Iron Mask

Premise

A ragtag Team from two earths set out to rescue Barry, while Caitlin, Joe and the Earth-2 Flash find a way to stop Geomancer.

In Zoom’s lair, a masked prisoner presents a new mystery.

High Points

The final Jay-Zoom moment, while it’s likely misleading, was a dramatically effective way to end an uneven episode.

Low Points

Barry’s vibrates correctly and escapes after an inspiring speech: I understand the writers want to show the development of Alt-Allen, and the bond between two words, but they need to find a better way to show these things.

If Zoom is telling the truth about Killer Frost’s actions being part of the plan, he’s off the hook. If he is just throwing out a line to help her save herself (thinking he may need her later), then his lair has the worst security in two earths which, by the standards this show has set, says quite a lot.

The Scores:

Originality: 2/6

Effects: 5/6 The “Cliffs of Insanity” were serviceable, I suppose.

Acting: 5/6

Story: 4/6 The story improves on last week, but they need to end the Zoom-tease.

What did Wells inject Zoom with just before he crossed over?

Emotional Response: 5/6

Production: 5/6

Overall: 4/6

In total, “Escape from Earth-2” receives 30/42

  1. The most predictable moment in TV history is the high point?…

Also “My name is Barry Allen, and I am the fastest man alive! Not in the terms of like, figuring out obvious stuff, I’m kinda slow about that. Or in the terms of like, running, since most other speedsters seem to be faster than me, too.”

And we have the usual two-parter problem. Lots of built-up in Part 1 which makes Part 2 a bit of a let-down.

    • Jethro– it was the only moment that suggested the menace of Zoom.
Blackadder– how would that work? Time-Travel?. I wonder if they introduced Earth-1 “Jay” so this could be him, but I can’t imagine why.. It could really be anyone at this point. Even the rightful heir to the French throne.

    • Earth-2 is ahead of Earth-1 technology-wise. Earth-1 future has body double tech. So it stands to reason that E2 now could have the body double tech that Eobard used in the first season.

My money is on it being Jay inside the mask, with The Jay that has been on E1 being some other burnt out speedster we haven’t officially met yet. Or even E2 Eobard
