Brannon Braga may step back from Enterprise

shayward writes, According to a story on trekweb found here, Enterprise co-creator and executive producer Brannon Braga may take his hands off of season 4 because he is “not sure how [he] can top [his work in season 3].”

Not sure what I think about this. Probably just wild assumptions and fan dreams. Based on interviews I’ve read and seen over the years, Braga isn’t the problem. Berman’s a king-size jackass that doesn’t give a rip about the Star Trek name or the fans.

  1. The Retard is dead! Long live Trek!
I don’t care who is responsible for Trek’s demise. As long as one half of the disaster duo is out for the count Trek fans worldwide will rejoice. This could be the shot in the arm Trek needs. Come on, Braga is the one who said he “didn’t know” why fans don’t like Trek any more. Has that complete fool ever listened to Trek’s fans? Did he even care about Roddenberry’s vision of the future? Did he heck, so off with his head!

Hopefully Berman will end up getting kicked out too, or assassinated. I’LL take over Trek. Series 4 of Enterprise will resolve the Temporal Cold War in one episode where Daniels gets phasered in the head. His demise somehow removes photon torpedoes and phasers from existence for the next 100 years. Instead Starfleet has uber assault rifles engineered with bolt-on alien technology like those from Stargate SG-1’s final series. Later on, powerful laser rifles will be issued. Enterprise itself will become much less powerful and polarised armour will be differenciated from shields.

After Daniels’ death there will be no more time travel episodes EVER. That’s it, the END of time travel. Enteprise will explore the galaxy at a much slower, realistic rate, meeting ONE alien race every couple of weeks (deling with them throughut as nteprise moves through their territory) rather than two or three dispensible, hard-headed species of the week per episode. We will know where in the galaxy Enterprise is in relation to earth.

Mayweather will get something to do. Hoshi will be seen in a short skirt quite often, but T’Its’ nipples will remain cupped in a bra from now on. We’ll also see a lot more of Lieutenant Reed. Also, I’ll get the bloke who did the music for Crimson Tide and The Rock to do Trek’s soundtracks from now on. There will be no more atonal flute or orchestra music.

There are a lot more things I want to see from Trek. How’s that little list for starters?

    • Re: The Retard is dead! Long live Trek!
Oh, we’ll also see Enterprise making reports to earth’s media again like that early episode where they were recording a programme for schools. That is such a cool idea.

cool and very likely… just like we do with the guys on IIS now-a-days.

I like the list of changes by NoPoet… Bragga is just one, and I’m not saying I’m sorry to see him go, but I think Berman can screw it all up by himself, so I’ll reserve my cheers until I see resutlts.

    • Time after time after time after…

After Daniels’ death there will be no more time travel episodes EVER. That’s it, the END of time travel.

AYYYYMEN!!! You got my vote in spades. If there is EVER another time travel story make it something trivial like:

Hoshi: Captain our internal clocks have lost 15 minutes!
Archer: Uh Oh, we’ve time traveled again! Engineering, increase speed! Were late for the Andorian banquet!
      j/k ROFL

Good suggestions as to improvement on pacing and character concentration. Most I would certainly agree would make for a better show.

Which rifles are you refering to in SG-1?

The only a alien weapons SG-1 uses on a regular basis are:

Teal’C’s staff weapon, which he has used to the near exclusion of everything else.
In Full Circle he used either an M249 or an Mk 48 mod 0.
He also used a SMAW and another shoulder launched missle that I couldn’t quite identify.
He also had some kind of jumped up staff cannon that he used briefly in 48 Hours

There are the Zats, which started trickling in as a sidearm in the second season. O’Neill still carries his M9, though :-)

They use TERs borrowed from the Tok’Ra to deal with some invisible aliens in Show and Tell.

And they build a special gun to deal with Anubis’ Berzekers in Death Knell. Were you refering to one of those weapons or is there something else you had in mind?

Did he even care about Roddenberry’s vision of the future?

I’ll have to say that Trek has definitely gone downhill since Roddenberry’s death, with one exception. Had he been alive for DS9, it’s likely that series (my fave) wouldn’t have been as dark or war-driven as it refreshingly was.

At any rate, I abandoned Voyager early in the second season, and I gave up on Enterprise even sooner. I’ve heard so much good stuff about this season of Enterprise, though, that I’m planning to give it a shot this summer.

I really don’t know much about Enterprise, but I can agree and say that one of the few redeeming aspects of Voyager was that they spent several episodes traveling through “X” space, whether X was Kazon, Species 8472, or Borg, to name a few. Villian-of-the-week episodes are ok when a show is just starting (Buffy, the aforementioned Stargate SG-1, etc.), but should give way to more complex and lengthy story arcs and character development.

  2. Changes Anew
Star Trek is in need of innocense! We have seen a show of space explorer become a continuation of all that came before them………yet that happen in their future. We need to return to the days of human ignorance in space. Yes all are great characters, but do we see any humor of playful dialog among crew with the captain. Kirk was great for his light nature after each crisis. Riker was the playful one later in the next series. Where is the excitement of discovering the new. Yes, I agree we have seen the crew do too many things even Scotty hasnt dreamed of in his sleep. We need to keep the technology of the show simple. This ship cant be perfect all the time. I agree, we need to get back to exploring new civilizations, organisms and science.

I hope there is a new desire to make this a great show without all the drama queens bringing us down. Star Trek is about HOPE! Optimistic Hope for all species.

For Gods sake! No More Space/Time stuff. That has been done to death! over and over again! argh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, I dont have problems with sexuallity in the series. This series is closes to our society therefor sexual exploarion is just as nature as anything else. Without it….we wouldnt have Spock to poke fun at!

    Somebody save this great series!

Or Data: “I am… fully functional.”

      • Okay, but…
I understand what you’re saying…but while the characters are in bed, they are not exploring strange new worlds or seeking out new life and new civilisations. They’re blandly going where every soap opera goes every day.

  3. exploration == snooze. We need drama
Honestly, I think we are past the “fly around and meet aliens every week” kind of episode that the first poster describes. That has been done to death. I liked this past season, simply because it was planned out, had a nice arc, and gave enterprise a mission to accomplish. I question the ending of the seasons with the time travel nonsense, but at least it sets up another problem to solve that will hopefully take more than 2 episodes to get through.

Both DS9 and B5 managed to further a large story arc, which creating lighter episodes when needed, and that is how television is going, with things like 24, reality TV, etc. Enterprise should continue as it did this past season, aiming at a goal and moving towards it in each episode.

The difference with B5 is that the arch was planned from before day 1. JMS started B5 knowing exactly how he wanted to end the final episode. Also from what I’ve heard he had planned out the 1000 years before and after the serious and have rough ideas of 1,000,000 on either side of the series.

The point I’m trying to make is that I don’t think B&B have any concept where the story is going. I think the final episode of this season proves that. They don’t seem to know anything but time travel. I think those two really believe that the fans like that, as they’ve been abusing the hell out of it this season. There was less time travel when they were dealing with that Temporal Cold War (which didn’t seem to be all that cold, as there seemed to be a great deal of conflict between the two sides).

FREAKING ALIEN NAZIS!!! What the heck was the deal with that? Why did it have to end like that? Why not just cut with “the captain is dead”? Leave the season in a complete state of unknown. Trust me, if they had managed to keep it quiet if Scott Bacula was on for season 4, all of the speculation right now would be on whether he was actually dead or not. Hell even the crap w/ Daniels reminding Archer every 15 minutes about how what he does is so important would have fit in nicely. “If Archer is so important to the federation, and he is dead, how do we get to the Federation we have now?”

      • Re: exploration == snooze. We need drama
I disagree that exploration and/or meeting new aliens is dull. Star Trek nearly always handles exploration badly. I watch a lot of Voyager and I’ve seen every Enterprise episode. Most episodes feature an obligatory battle against “hard-headed aliens of the week” (copyright Jammer’s Star Trek review site!), followed by a hefty press of the Reset Button. How is this ecploration?

There’s so rarely a feel of anything new, and when we DO get an original story such as “Strange New World” which features the NX-01’s first away mission, people still find the most ridiculous things to bitch about. I LOVED that episode: the crew in baseball caps with NX-01 written on them, Archer bringing his dog for a walk, the crew wanting to stay and camp out, an “alien scorpion thing” in Tucker’s sleeping bag, genuine psychological torment – all things we rarely or never see in Trek.

Bringing the Federation into the equation even before anyone has ever heard of it was a terrible idea. I KNEW it was coming from day one, but I still groaned aloud. How is something exciting if the characters all know it’s a foregone conclusion?

    • where television is going is down the crapper

Both DS9 and B5 managed to further a large story arc, which creating lighter episodes when needed, and that is how television is going, with things like 24, reality TV, etc.

Please, please, PLEASE tell me you did not just mention 24 and especially “reality TV” in the same context as Babylon 5 and DS9. Have you no concept of what is good? Granted, 24 has story arcs, but the level of writing is nowhere near that of B5 or DS9. And reality TV?

And you really think “that is how television is going”? Did you notice that Firefly got cancelled because it expected intelligence and an attention span from its audience. (The problem, of course, wasn’t the lack of them in the audience, but the PTB’s.)?

To quote one of the two gods of modern storytelling, Mr. Joss Whedon, “I’ve never made mainstream TV very well. I like surprises, and TV isn’t about surprises, unless the surprise is who gets voted off of something. I’ve been lucky to sneak this strange, strange show over the airwaves for as long as I have. I don’t FEEL lucky, but I understand that I am.”

And “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the road less traveled by and they CANCELLED MY FRIKKIN’ SHOW. I totally shoulda took the road that had all those people on it. Damn.”

      • Re: where television is going is down the crapper
I’m not saying what is good vs. bad, I’m saying that episodes that exist in a bubble are not where TV should be going. Shows like 24 and those reality shows demonstrate that people want serialized storylines that progress each week as opposed to being forgotten the next week. TOS and TNG stories rarely interacted with each other. DS9, towards the end was VERY serialized (and therefore much more engaging). Same with B5 and 24. Reality TV is just a dumbed-down version of it.

The point I was making is that the crew of Enterprise has to always be on a mission with a specific goal and each episode has to involve them trying to fulfill that mission. I think that this past season of Enterprise was clearly planned out beginning to end and was very well executed, save for the last minute of the finale, but it’s fairly obvious that with the Xindi storyline resolved, they needed a cliffhanger and threw that on. That one alien nazi doesn’t ruin the great drama and action we got all season.

  4. A poem
    The cow goes moo

    The clock goes tick

Bring me Berman’s head on a stick!

NOTE: This poem is intentionally crap.
