Generations Collector’s Edition Release Date Set

Wandering aimlessly around the web, I stumbled across this nugget from DVDanswers.com. The Collector’s Edition is set to be released September 7th, 2004 (a day before Trek’s 38th anniversary). No details yet on what will be included in the 2-Disc set.

No date has been set for the film Trek fans really want, First Contact. Oh well, guess we wait till 2005.

  1. TOS

What I’m really waiting for is a re-release of TOS on
    DVD.
TNG, DS9, and VOY have season sets out and I
assume there will be the same for ENT, but TOS is still only
    available (AFAIK) on two-episode DVDs.

The movies getting collector’s/director’s editions is to be expected…
most movies (in most genres) get those.

      That will change before
      the year is out

  2. Hey, who put the monkey in charge?
Generations is an excellent film ruined by some Trek-hater’s idiotic demands, e.g. Kirk must die, the original cast can only be in it for 15 minutes, there must be a crap scene in the Nexus, Picard must spend half an hour sitting down watching Soren typing on a control panel.

Without the above limitations, this would have been a first-class film. As it is, the first hour or more is terrific — much better than I expected it to be. A pity the last half is so BORING. Typical Hollywood.

Yes, but the star-preparing-to-go-supernova visuals very very pretty. The let’s-crash-the-saucer-section bit was rather badly done though, lots of gratuitous kiddies leaving their teddy bears behind shots, and that silly bit with Data trying to find his cat. Couldn’t he just leave the thing in his quarters? I severely doubt they were in the drive section; officers are supposed to be on deck 8 in the saucer.

LOL, I thought the saucer crash was the best bit! Out-and-out destruction for ten solid minutes. I actually felt the girl dropping the teddy bear added a personal touch that Star Trek seriously lacks. Trek is supposed to be about humans but they’re all so “highly evolved” most of them have about as much in common with me as I do with the Norse hordes.

I always thought Data’s cat was a bit pointless. Except the episode where it scratched Riker and he wouldn’t go into Data’s quarters at the end in case it was there – the doors open to reveal Riker holding onto the doorframe looking scared. That’s an absolute classic.

I really like the crash scene also. And, having read the Technical Manual like a good geek, I knew the exact crash landing procedure. (Did I just admit that? ;)
